FIREWEED FIERCE Update for the events of Saturday, August 15

Special Olympics Team Yukon’s historic run at the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Games comes to a close with our small but mighty group earning a whopping 27 medals! Here’s how the last day played out:

Athletics, Powerlifting, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Swimming:
Spent the morning cheering on Jessica and Albert in their final bocce matches, as well as the Soccer Team!

Bocce:
Jessica Pruden wins GOLD versus Snider (ON) 11-5
Albert Bill wins SILVER versus Teed (NS) 9-13

An amazing finish for a fantastic foursome of bocce players that made the Yukon Proud!

Golf:
We finally got Tijana McCarthy’s result…and it is SILVER in colour! With well played rounds of 71-77-68, she finishes in second place in her division.

Tijana showed how much she developed in the last year, working hard on all elements of her game…proving she is very much FIREWEED FIERCE.

Soccer:
The Special Olympics Team Yukon Soccer won its second National Games GOLD medal game in history by winning against New Brunswick 12-2. Congratulations to Stefan Oettli, Queyanna Thompson, Rachel Dawson, Zachary Louie, Bobbi-Rae Patchett, Edward Kaye, Kenny Atlin, Owen Munroe, Kevin Spofford, Mike Sumner and goalkeeper Gaetan Michaud for a great week of soccer! You know what they say…teamwork makes the dream work!

Correction in Rhythmic Gymnastics:
There was another error with Divisioning and as a result Gracie Ryckman's Bronze medal in Hoop was upgraded to SILVER! Congrats Gracie!
