Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Beyond Borders Youth Network! 🍂

This weekend we came together for Friendsgiving, and our hearts are still full. It was an evening of good food, great conversations, and plenty of laughter, with dishes and stories from all over the world shared around the table. Moments like these remind us how special it is to build community together. ❤️

Today we're especially thankful for everyone who has always believed in our mission. To the members, volunteers, families, partners, and supporters who keep showing up for newcomer and multicultural youth across the Yukon, thank you. None of this happens without you.

We're also grateful to live, learn, and gather on the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta'an Kwäch'än Council, whose care for this land long predates any holiday on our calendar.

Wherever you're celebrating today, and whoever you're celebrating with, we hope you feel at home. 🧡

Today is World Mental Health Day, and we want to say something to every newcomer, immigrant, refugee, and multicultural youth here in the Yukon: how you’re feeling matters.

Moving to a new place, or growing up between cultures, can carry a weight that’s hard to put into words. Maybe it’s missing family back home, feeling like you have to translate yourself in every room, or trying to figure out where you belong when you’re still learning the language, the winters, and the unspoken rules. Some of us grew up in families where mental health wasn’t something we talked about out loud. That silence doesn’t mean the struggle isn’t real.

So today, we invite you to check in with yourself, and with someone you care about. Send that text. Ask a friend how they’re actually doing. Take a walk, call your loved ones, rest without guilt. Small things count.

At Beyond Borders Youth Network, we believe no young person should have to carry it alone. You belong here, exactly as you are, and there is a community ready to walk beside you. 💛

If you’re struggling right now, please reach out. You can call or text 9-8-8 anytime, day or night, for support across Canada.

If you need someone to celebrate Thanksgiving with, we'll be celebrating later today at 6pm so send us a message to learn more. :)

The Circle: BBYN Friendsgiving is happening on Saturday, October 10, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Falcon Ridge Clubhouse, and there's a seat at the table for everyone.

Join Beyond Borders Youth Network for a cozy evening of potluck food, games with prizes, music, dancing, and stories from all the places we call home. Bring a dish if you can, or just bring yourself. Newcomers, immigrants, neighbours, and friends of all ages and backgrounds are welcome.

Last Friday, we went golfing! ⛳

Straight from work, folks from our network gathered at Mountain View Golf Club for an afternoon of golfing under the sun, and it was so much fun. Many of us had never picked up a club before, which made it the perfect kind of adventure: a little challenge, a lot of laughs, and a whole new experience to share together. 🌞

Gathering like this after our successful youth leadership retreat felt so good, and we were thrilled to welcome some new faces into the community too. This is what it's all about: showing up, trying new things, and building connections one afternoon at a time!

A big thank you to Mountain View Golf Club for having us, and to Cameron for the wonderful lesson, you made first-timers feel right at home! And thank you to the City of Whitehorse, Yukon Recreation Grant for making this possible.

Last week, we spent three unforgettable days on the land at Long Ago People's Place for our very first BBYN Youth Leadership Retreat. We learned from an Elder, shared stories around the fire, and found something so many of us had been searching for: belonging. ❤️

To our funders, sponsors, and cultural partners, and to the incredible participants who showed up as themselves: thank you. You made this possible, and our hearts are still full. This is just the beginning. 🌱
