Northern Community Land Trust is planning permanently affordable homes in the community, and we want to hear from people who may be interested in buying.

Before the homes are designed, tell us what size of home you need, what you can afford and when you might be ready to buy.

πŸ“ The survey takes under 10 minutes. Complete it by October 30 to enter a draw for one of three $50 gift cards.

The International Center for Community Land Trusts has released the final report from the 2026 Global CLT Peer Exchange. In April, 24 practitioners and organizers from eleven countries spent five days in Rio de Janeiro, visiting communities across the city's favelas and comparing notes on governance, community organizing and collective land ownership.

Four Canadians were part of the cohort, from Weymouth Falls Community Land Trust, Hogan's Alley Society and Upper Hammonds Plains Community Land Trust, and the exchange itself grew out of a 2024 study tour organized by the Canadian Network of Community Land Trusts, which we are part of.

The mechanics look different in every country, but the principle is the one we are working from here in Yukon: land and affordability held permanently for the community instead of the market.

A shout out to our volunteers.

As our new buyers close on phase 1 homes this week we wanted to reflect on the time and energy our volunteers have spent on this project.

It is no easy feat building housing as a non-profit organization. NCLTS has just one part time staff. But we also have a small but dedicated group of community members who have collectively put thousands of hours into project 1096 over the past 6 years.

If it wasn't for the vision and dedication of these passionate community members, these 32 units of housing wouldn't have happened. They have put aside so much of their personal time into building housing for others, and it is truly commendable.

If you are a buyer, or someone who has watched this project come to fruition, please give the volunteers a thank you.

We cannot thank them enough!

Today is a huge day! After five years in the making, the first owners of project 1096 took possession of their finished homes. This is a big moment for permanently affordable ownership housing in the territory, and we are extremely proud of all the hard work that went into the project to get it this far. Congrats to all our new homeowners and everyone who helped along the way!
