MESSAGE FROM WHITE ROCK RCMP:
There has been a recent scam alert where fraudsters have been spoofing the White Rock RCMP non-emergency number (778-545-4800) and asking for personal information that may include financial information, identification information and /or money. HANG UP immediately and call the White Rock RCMP directly at (778) 545-4800 or your local police detachment to report the incident.
Remember: Police will NEVER call, email, or text to ask you for personal identification information or financial information including your account number, code, password, or PIN. Any sensitive information that is required by police will be conducted in person NOT over the phone or via text message.
Police will NEVER ask you for money over the phone, no crypto, no gift cards, no threats for immediate payment.
Preventing authority frauds
• Verify a legitimate agency. Say “I’ll call you back” then verify number independently to contact the agency
• Suspicious demands – Police will not ask for payment in gift cards or by Western Union
• Due process – legal proceedings will be served on you, not started over the phone
• Withhold sensitive information – don’t give a caller personal information so they can verify your identity.
• Legitimate authority will not ask you to confirm online ID, password, or authentication code
