Would you like to add a bit more meaning to your shopping at the Stouffville Market this weekend?

The WSFB will be hosting a food and donations drive on Saturday, and we would love for you to swing by! Demand for food assistance is still at record levels, and we rely on neighbours like you to help ensure our clients have access to the food they need.

So grab your bags, enjoy the local vendors, and please consider visiting our booth with a donation. It’s also a great chance to meet some of our volunteers and learn about the work we do here in Stouffville.

Our team will be accepting non-perishable food and monetary donations, and our most needed food items can be found on our website: https://wsfoodbank.ca/needed-food-items

At first glance, this may look like little more than boxes of rice waiting to be sorted and stored, but this photo tells a much bigger story about volunteerism in action.

Our dedicated bingo team helps keep things running smoothly at Bingo World and Gaming Richmond Hill, generating important funds that allow us to meet the growing needs of our community.

With that support in hand, our purchasing team can source the best possible value on the nutritious foods our clients rely on every day. Monetary donations not only help keep staples like rice on our shelves, but also ensure every dollar goes as far as possible in providing food assistance to local individuals and families.

Thank you to our volunteers, supporters, and community partners for making this work possible!

June is upon us, and with all this recent sunshine, strawberry blossoms are blooming across the region!

If you're headed out for some grocery shopping this month, we hope you'll consider our fellow community members who may need a little extra help this summer. As our purchasing team works to ensure clients have access to the healthy foods they need, you can help by donating some of our most-needed non-perishable items.

Donation bins are located at the exits of most local grocery stores, and monetary donations can be made online at wsfoodbank.ca/donate

Thanks for your continued support, Stouffville, and here's to a great summer!

Congratulations to Brianna Varsamis on this well-deserved recognition, and we hope she doesn’t mind us adding a little more praise!

Brianna has been an incredible supporter of the Whitchurch Stouffville Food Bank, working alongside the Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire & Emergency Services team to raise funds and collect food donations through multiple department events and internal initiatives every year.

Our community is fortunate to have Brianna, and we are thrilled to see her recognized as an NFPA Rising Star. Well deserved!

Brianna Varsamis of the Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire and Emergency Services has been selected by the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) as a 2026 NFPA Rising Star, an annual recognition that honors and supports fire and life safety educators who have effectively implemented NFPA programs and initiatives in their communities.

Brianna is one of 10 recipients chosen for this year’s recognition, which features a scholarship to attend the upcoming NFPA Conference & Expo®, the premier event for fire, electrical, and building safety professionals worldwide.

“Brianna has demonstrated a strong commitment to reducing Whitchurch- Stouffville residents’ risk to fire and related hazards through consistent, innovative outreach to residents,” said Kelly Ransdell, director of the NFPA Public Education Division. “We’re thrilled to recognize her as an NFPA Rising Star, and to help strengthen and support their efforts moving forward.”

To be considered for an NFPA Rising Star recognition, the individual must use and implement NFPA resources and programs, such as the NFPA Learn Not to Burn® educational curriculum for young students, the Steps to Safety™ fall and prevention program for older adults, and Fire Prevention Week™, the largest annual public awareness campaign for NFPA. They must also be fire and life safety educators who excel in the field, demonstrate enthusiasm about their work, and are interested in learning more about NFPA programs, materials, and resources. All candidates are identified by NFPA regional directors and public education network representatives who submit their recommendations to the NFPA Public Education Division for final selection.

“This is a tremendous honour for Brianna in recognition of the excellent service she provides to our community each and every day, we are extremely proud to have her as a member of our team” said Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire Chief Bill Snowball.

While attending the NFPA Conference & Expo this June, NFPA Rising Stars will collaborate with the public education network representatives who represent Ontario, to identify the fire and life safety programs and initiatives they plan to implement in their communities. They are also invited to participate in professional development webinars throughout the year to enhance their knowledge, which further benefits the fire departments and communities they serve.

The NFPA Rising Stars program includes travel, conference registration, and lodging for the NFPA Conference & Expo.

To find out more about fire and life safety education programs and activities in Whitchurch- Stouffville, please contact the Whitchurch- Stouffville Fire & Emergency Services at 905-640-9595 and/or email [email protected]. For more information about NFPA programs, visit nfpa.org/education.

The Whitchurch Stouffville Food Bank, and the broader Stouffville community, lost one of its greatest champions this week with the sudden passing of Cathy Robinson.

Cathy’s personality and smile filled every room she entered, and her wit, candour, and humour were present in every conversation she had. She made a lasting impact on countless lives within our community, caring for clients and volunteers alike, and she will be deeply missed.

First volunteering with the Whitchurch Stouffville Food Bank in 2018, Cathy joined our Board of Directors and later served as Co-Chair. She was a steadfast source of support, helping guide our operations and planning through periods of significant growth and challenge, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Cathy’s family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known her. Her kindness, dedication, and memory will remain with us all, and will always be cherished by our organization.
