Background

Ajax library workers are just hours away from a strike deadline at midnight.

They're working hard to negotiate a new collective agreement, but the Employer is still not moving.

That's where we come in. We need to build pressure on the Library Board, via the Mayor and Town Council, and get them to negotiate a fair deal.

The sticking point is Sunday premiums. Every municipal worker in Ajax gets a pay premium if they work on Sundays, except library workers.

Part-time workers are hardest hit because they mostly work on evenings and weekends. We need fairness for all municipal workers and all library workers.

Two days.
Why do the colours matter?
Because for a lot of our members, this is the first time they see how many of us there are.
You work in one school. You know your own building. You do not see the 275,000 other education workers across this province who are dealing with the same short staffing, the same violence in the workplace, the same wages that have not kept up. On the 16th, you will see them.
That is what a Day of Action does. It reminds us that we are not doing this alone, and it tells the people at the bargaining table that we are paying attention.
Our contracts have expired. We are asking for properly funded and fully staffed schools, better working conditions, and real respect for the people who make public education possible.

How can you have an Ontario Science Centre with no Science Unit?

Staff were informed today that 18% of jobs would be cut due to “organizational changes” including the elimination of the standalone Science Unit.

Doug Ford promised that no one working at the Ontario Science Centre would be left jobless following its sudden closure.

Ford needs to step in to fix this now.
