We can’t end the 2025-2026 season without a shoutout to our Junior Steelhawks as well! As they travelled to the Ottawa tournament in early April for the last tournament of the season and came away with a Bronze Medal! Thank you to Kawartha blazers players who joined us for a great weekend!

Are you interested in learning more about and trying inclusive recreational physical activity opportunities in Durham Region? Join CP-Net and the Ontario Brain Institute, in collaboration with non-profit organizations in our community, for an interactive showcase. This interactive showcase will enable you to explore inclusive programs for individuals with developmental disabilities, including physical and behavioural support needs.

The event is open to individuals with developmental disabilities, families and caregivers, service providers and community organizations interested in inclusive recreation.

Date: Saturday, April 25, 2026
Time: 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Durham Steelhawks brought home yet another gold medal this season at the 20th Annual Westerns Matt Cook Memorial Cup Tournament!

🏒🔥 IT’S CHAMPIONSHIP TIME 🔥🏒

This Sunday at 3:30pm, Steelhawks intermediate team are in the OSHA intermediate A gold medal game!

After earning a 1st place bye to the finals, we’re ready to take on the winner from the semi-final Saturday game between Hamilton Sledgehammers and Elmvale Bears.

If you’re in the area, come out to Century Gardens in Brampton to watch OSHA Champions weekend! Games start Saturday morning at 9am.

This past weekend, the Steelhawks attended the Cruiser Cup Tournament. We had 3 teams in Intermediate A, C & Junior division.

Intermediate A - The team went 2-1 in round robin play before a heartbreaking semi final loss 2-1. The team rebounded and won the bronze medal in a hard fought game vs Hamilton.

Intermediate C - The team went 1-0-2 in round robin play, before losing their semi final & bronze medal games on Sunday.

Junior - This was the first ever games for this group, combining with Kawartha Blazers junior team. Going 1-2 in round robin play before losing in semi final game. However, in the bronze medal match, the game went all the way to a shootout and they came out with the win!

Great weekend by everyone, thank you to Cruisers Sports for hosting once again.

Hey Neighbours! Father and Son Magic! Conor’s father Paul Ciampaglia is the CityNews Community Ambassador of the week. Recognized for the work he does helping his son Connor and other kids with disabilities play Sledge Hockey with the Durham Steelhawks.

Connor was born premature at 27 weeks and has Cerebral palsy but is able to enjoy getting on the ice with the thanks of people like his Father. Durham Steelhawks Sledge Hockey Association is a not-for-profit that’s hoping to raise $4,000 this year their junior and senior teams.
