On Wednesday, the District Governor had the absolute honour of presenting Hal with a District Leadership Pin for his incredible dedication, passion, and DRIVE in bringing Rotary’s EPIC Day of Service to life across Durham Region.
Words from our Governor...When the idea of EPIC Day was introduced, I knew it would take someone special to turn a dream into action — someone organized, patient, community-minded, and willing to rally people together. Hal took that idea and ran with it alllllllll the way!
Because of his leadership, Rotary clubs came together, communities were impacted, friendships were built, and service truly shined in Durham Region. Gardens were cleaned, shelters supported, BBQs shared, blood donor clinics promoted, smiles spread… and Rotary showed up in a BIG way.
Hal — thank you for your dedication, your heart for service, and for reminding us what happens when passionate people Unite for Good. This recognition is so well deserved!

An amazing team came together to prepare and serve a delicious meal — and WOW… what a team!!
There is something truly special about coming together to serve others, share kindness, laughter, and a few hugs along the way. Service doesn’t always have to be big to make an impact — sometimes it’s a warm meal, a smiling face, and simply showing up.
So proud of everyone who rolled up their sleeves tonight to make a difference in our community. You are what Rotary — and community — is all about!

Yesterday , the Whitby Sunrise Rotary Club had the honour of presenting a cheque to Bereaved Families of Ontario – Durham Region. Thank you to the Vocations Committee.
This incredible organization provides support programs for bereaved parents, young adults, and teens — helping individuals and families learn to live with grief, decrease feelings of isolation, and adapt to everyday life after loss.
As Rotarians, we believe in supporting our community in meaningful ways, and we are proud to help organizations that bring comfort, connection, and hope during some of life’s most difficult moments.
Thank you to Bereaved Families of Ontario – Durham Region for the compassionate and important work you do each and every day. Together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

What an incredible day of service and community spirit!

Today, the Rotary Clubs of Whitby Sunrise, Ajax, Whitby, and Oshawa came together for the Rotary Epic Day of Service to host a free community BBQ and Rotary Village for our community.

It was such a wonderful opportunity to connect with residents, share a meal together, and showcase the many impactful projects Rotary supports both locally and internationally. From community initiatives right here at home to humanitarian efforts around the world, Rotary continues to make a difference because of dedicated volunteers who believe in service above self.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, supported, and helped make today such a success. Seeing our Rotary clubs collaborate in this way is a reminder of just how much can be accomplished when we work together for the good of our communities.

We are incredibly proud to share that the Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise has made a meaningful donation to Deaf Services Canada.

For decades, Deaf Services Canada has been a vital part of our community—providing programs, education, and support that promote independence, inclusion, and connection for Deaf, deafened, and hard-of-hearing individuals and their families. 

This contribution is more than just a donation—it’s an investment in accessibility, communication, and a more inclusive Durham Region. It helps ensure that essential services like ASL education, employment supports, and community programming continue to empower individuals and break down barriers. 

At Rotary, “Service Above Self” isn’t just a motto—it’s action. We are honoured to support an organization that is creating real impact and strengthening our community for everyone.

This past weekend, members of the Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise rolled up their sleeves and got to work as part of the Great Lakes Watershed Clean-Up 🌎

Joined by friends, family, and one very enthusiastic four-legged helper, Harlow 🐾 (who absolutely stole the show), the group came together with a shared goal—making a positive impact on our local environment.

It’s always inspiring to see community in action. Small efforts, when multiplied by passionate people, create meaningful change. Proud of everyone who came out to support such an important initiative!
