Some information from our Branch ‘Banners’ Chair:

“Currently, we have 16 surplus banners (banners that have been replaced with new ones).
These surplus banners are free for the familiy members if they want them. The surplus banners are available for pick-up in the clubroom as of Jan. 8 until the end of March 2026.
Note that these free banners have damage or appearance problems”.

For the next generations so they remember too.

This program is nearly a decade old now. I lend my services to the Whitby and Brooklin Legion to create their veteran banners. It’s a privilege to be trusted with treasured family photos, sometimes the only one they have, to scan and retouch, and put onto a banner to proudly be seen on the lamposts of our town.

These banners are of my own family members. Lest we forget.

If you’re interested in knowing more about the Honour Our Veterans Banner Program in Whitby or Brooklin, reach out to me or either Legion. This program also exists in most other towns and cities, just reach out to your local Legion to find out more.

Our Branch THANKS the Town of Whitby for hanging our Veterans Banners this year.
We continue to be indebted to our ‘Banners Chair’ Bernie Bucking for ensuring that the banners are cleaned, repaired and carefully stored after each Remembrance season.
Bernie went above and beyond again this year, and walked all over the Town of Whitby Branch 112 banner areas and compiled the attached list of names and locations. He knows how important it is for those that have purchased banners to honour their loved ones, and to those veterans still living.
Note: Bernie was unable to locate a few of the banners on his list, so if you can help to identify their 2025 location please let us know.

Thanks again to Emma Inkpen for her art work on the banners, and for making the entries on this FB page!

Our Whitby Legion members are grateful to the Town of Whitby for hanging our Veterans Banners again this year.
We are indebted to our ‘Banners Chair’ Bernie Bucking for taking such good care of them (cleaning each one after they are removed by the Town employees after Nov. 11th).
As we always get inquiries about “where did my veteran poster get hung up”, Bernie went above and beyond this year! He walked all over the Town of Whitby Branch 112 banner areas, and compiled the attached list of names and locations.

Thanks again to Emma Inkpen for her art work on the banners, and for making the entries on this FB page!
