Who we are
Ensure Hive Future is a Federal Not-for-Profit dedicated to apiary research and education. The status quo for beekeeping is not sustainable, so we are working to raise Better Bees; these are mite-resistant, locally adapted honey bees raised without using chemicals, antibiotics, or greenwashing practices. Our operations span across Whistler, Metro Vancouver, and Vancouver Island, supporting both backyard and commercial apiaries.
We have several research projects that will run simultaneously, all focused on Varroa Resistant Hygiene (V.S.H.). We will scale out varroa resistant bees, apply multiple management practices, record findings and identify the most successful methods.
We have successfully raised mite-resistant queen bees and distribute them to beekeepers throughout B.C. Our mission is to raise self-sufficient honey bee colonies, to create a sustainable future.

About the position
We’re looking for a full-time summer beekeeping intern. The ideal candidate is either in their final years in post-secondary education, or you are super star finishing high school, with an interest in bees, science, and the environment. This position comes with unparalleled mentorship from industry experts and some of the best beekeepers in British Columbia.
Everyone will get into the bees as that, but we are looking for a variety of roles:
Marketing
Content creation
Sales
Web
Social media
Equipment building / construction
Product development
Administration / P.N.C.
Finance
As a student intern, you will be learning everything there is to know about beekeeping. Your job responsibilities will include:
• conducting regular inspections on our Whistler bee colonies, and entering information into our database
• Helping with our queen breeding and rearing efforts
• Hive construction to create homes for our bees
• Honey harvesting and sales at farmers markets
• Promoting Whistler Beekeeping Experiences
We will equip you with a beekeeping suit and gloves for the duration of your employment. A good pair of work boots or shoes will be needed for muddy or marshy terrain. All other tools, supplies and equipment will be provided.
What you NEED
• High School Diploma
• Valid Driver's License
• No known allergy or phobia of bees; you may get the occasional bee sting
• Ability to carry up to 40 lbs
• Willingness to work in dirty / muddy conditions occasionally
What would be great to have
• Post secondary education in science or relevant field
• Reliable transportation
• Previous work in hospitality or customer service
