Today, we are taking a moment to reflect on and celebrate the incredible life and legacy of a truly special member of our Wetaskiwin Health Foundation family, Linda Reid, who passed away on May 12th.

For over a decade—managing our Administration & Accounting from 2007 to 2020—Linda watched the Foundation grow and helped shepherd many large campaigns from ideas into reality, campaigns that continue to significantly impact the health and well-being of our community today.

But beyond the numbers and the balancing of books, Linda was a foundational pillar in our office. While she carried a more reserved, beautifully direct, and wonderfully "no-nonsense" nature, those who worked alongside her knew exactly how deeply she cared.

Though not all of our current staff had the privilege of working with her, the steady environment she helped build is something we all still benefit from today. Linda will be greatly missed by all of us here at the Foundation, as well as the countless people whose lives she touched throughout the community she cared for so deeply.

Thank you, Linda, for your years of dedication and the beautiful legacy you left behind. Our thoughts remain with her family, friends, and everyone who was lucky enough to know her.

Our upcoming Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 24th. The meeting will be held in the Education Room at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre at 5:30pm.

As a matter of public record and organizational transparency, this meeting is open to the public. Members and stakeholders can expect standard updates on our annual performance, financial statements, and board elections.

💙 Interwoven in Care, Service, and Community 💙

On May 9th, history was made. For the first time in 18 years, the Wetaskiwin RCMP hosted their prestigious Regimental Ball. We are overflowing with gratitude to have been chosen as a charity of choice, alongside the incredible Underwater Dive Team. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Our three organizations are deeply interwoven into the fabric of daily life in our communities. The RCMP protects our safety, the Dive Team answers the call in critical moments, and the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation supports the care that comforts our families.
We all share one mission: to show up for this community when it matters most. When we come together, extraordinary things happen—and for that collective spirit, we are profoundly grateful.

The funds raised from this magical evening are stepping directly into a sacred space, being funneled entirely into our Palliative Care Revitalization Project.
We are so incredibly close to the finish line—with just $66,000 left to raise to reach our ultimate $800,000 goal!

Your support allows us to completely renovate our community’s palliative suites, allocating $400,000 to transform each space. Beyond clinical gear, you are helping us create a true sanctuary. Because of you, when local families face their hardest goodbyes, they will be wrapped in absolute dignity, comfort, and peace. You are gifting them a safe harbor when they need it most.

💙The Power of a Single Story: 40 Years of Heart

Every piece of equipment we purchase and every resource we provide has a face and a name behind it. As we celebrate our 40th Birthday, we aren't just looking back at four decades of growth—we are shifting our focus to the heartbeat of this Foundation: the people.

Today, we want to share a story from a patient whose life was changed by the care received right here in our community.

🏥"On Sunday March 8th, we brought our daughter Sydney in with a rapid, thready pulse, high fever and shallow breathing. It was a very scary time for us as parents but our nurse Ashley was a rock star and her calm, kind demeanor made all the difference. She excelled at juggling multiple patient concerns and competing priorities. She is an incredibly efficient and competent nurse with great bedside manner. She skillfully challenged physician decisions when appropriate and was very level headed and tactful in doing so. Ashley, you helped save my daughters life that morning and I cannot thank you enough. Words cannot express my gratitude. "
