Eligible homeowners can apply for free smoke alarm installation through CBRM’s Smoke Alarm Installation Program.

Applications are open until October 31, or while supplies last. Local fire departments will install smoke alarms free of charge for eligible applicants.

Smoke Alarm Installation Program applications are now open!

Eligible CBRM homeowners may receive a free smoke alarm and free installation from their local fire department. Firefighters will also provide fire safety information during the installation visit.

The program is available to CBRM homeowners who need a smoke alarm but can't afford one. One smoke alarm is provided per floor with bedrooms. For example, if bedrooms are located on two separate floors, an alarm will be provided for each floor.

Renters without a working smoke alarm should contact their landlord or property manager. They may also complete the request form; landlord information is required.

The program is returning for its second year. In 2025, the program provided 258 smoke alarms to homes across CBRM.

Applications are open October 1-31, or while supplies last.

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep it on a stable, heat-resistant surface and away from anything that can catch fire.
