Rosemary Wicks was raised in rural Saskatchewan and spent many years there with her husband Don. They have 3 married children, 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In 2003, she retired from 35 years of nursing, 10 of which was spent as a nurse practitioner in the northern part of Saskatchewan, Alberta and the Yukon, where she frequently saw wildlife in their natural habitat and experienced the beauty of the landscape outside her door.
She has been drawing since childhood, enjoying art and creativity throughout the years. Busy with raising a family and working full-time, she hadn’t pursued art seriously until retirement, when she followed her lifelong dream and began painting. Influenced by her rural upbringing, love of the prairies, passion for gardening, and the beauty of the bush country, her work has been enriched through courses with Willie Wong and self-help books. She says that learning to capture the joy, sunlight, color, shade, texture, and beauty in God’s natural gifts has been a wonderful experience. Painting mostly in a realistic style, she builds glazes and layers of color, with watercolor being the perfect medium for her vision. She also enjoys working with pen and ink, and occasionally acrylics.
