As a Youth Unlimited Program, Westlock Food Warriors is a Micro Business designed to encourage youth entrepreneurship, workplace experience, and more while offering accessible, affordable meals every Saturday Night. In an effort to offer the opportunity for youth and seniors to learn about entrepreneurship, as well as making an impact in Food Security, it has created a micro-business. This need fo
r impactful training, experience, and learning has been identified by several of the youth served through various programs. This micro-business will have all the workings- sigh, and trappings!- one would find in the competitive world of industry, providing many opportunities for learning hands on skills in a "workplace" environment (a fully functioning, professionally run, Weekly Pop Up), as well as the chance for youth, seniors, and those who have been out of the workforce for some time to upgrade their skills. Areas of learning include, but are not limited to: Cooking, Serving/Cash, Accounting, Marketing, and so much more! Not just lectures or book learning- real, hands on experience! Participants may be interested in trying all areas, or only one. Flexibility in preparing participants to be functional in a commercial environment is a big factor in how the Program was designed. The Program is just as much about creating and sustaining a healthy relationship with food. WFW will cover areas such as Safe Food Handling, Minimal Waste Practices, Getting $2 of value out of $1, and more! Skills and techniques that will translate not only into potential workplaces, but also at home! In the meantime, the Community of Westlock can support the endeavor by popping by for an affordable dine in or take out meal, offered every Saturday from 4PM to 10PM at the Youth Unlimited Fully Inspected Kitchen! Westlock Food Warriors Program is designed to become 100% self sustaining. Funds raised during the Weekly Pop Up will go directly back into the Program. While being run as a Micro-Business, Westlock Food Warriors is a non-profit program. There are no costs to enroll to become a participant. The Program will run off of the weekly meals it serves to the Community every Saturday Night, by donations, as well as other sources of funding as they become available.
