Our CEO, Scott Munro, was pleased to present at the CPA Canada One National Conference 2026 earlier this month.

Scott’s presentation, Accounting in First Nations, explored the unique legal, funding, accountability, and financial reporting environments in which First Nations governments operate. He discussed the challenges these complexities can create for planning, service delivery, and long-term prosperity, while exploring opportunities for accounting and governance to support reconciliation moving from intent to impact.

The session also highlighted the importance of understanding where reconciliation is heading, where it needs to go next, and why supporting the success of First Nations governments benefits all Canadians.

Thank you to CPA Canada for bringing together professionals to share knowledge, perspectives, and ideas that help move the profession forward.

Over the past two days, the FMB participated in a series of productive meetings in Ottawa focused on our expanding work with First Nations, including initiatives such as our new Financial Reporting and Audit Preparation Service. As demand for FMB's supports continues to grow, we remain focused on ensuring Nations have access to the tools, services, and expertise they need to strengthen financial management, support economic growth, and advance self-determination.

Today, we honour the survivors of residential schools, their families, and Indigenous communities across Canada. As we mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, we reflect on the lasting impacts of the residential school system and commit to remembering, learning, and walking forward with respect and truth.

Together, we remember the children who never came home and stand in support of those whose stories continue to guide us forward.

In advance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day on September 30, FMB staff gathered today in our orange shirts for a time of reflection and remembrance.

We came together to honour the Survivors of residential schools, those who never returned home, and their families and communities, while reflecting on the ongoing journey toward Truth and Reconciliation.

We were honoured to be joined by Gloria Russell, Residential School Survivor, who shared her story with us, and Mike DeGagné, Professor of Sociology at the University of Toronto, who spoke about Truth and Reconciliation and the importance of continued learning and action.

We are grateful to Gloria and Mike for sharing their stories, knowledge and perspectives with us, as we continue the journey toward Truth and Reconciliation.

Day one of our Thriving Nations Workshop started off with our Highlighted Nations Panel. Our guests shared their experiences, the challenges they have overcome, and the growth and successes they have achieved.
