The goals of the First Nations Public Service Secretariat are to :
1.

The purpose of the FNPSS is to create and implement a collective plan to support First Nations communities and organizations in BC as they pursue excellence in capacity building and human resource development. Strengthen and support relationships between First Nations leadership, administration and communities;
2. Coordinate and strengthen human resource development for Nation workers in the core

competencies: human, financial, records and information management, and policy development;
3. Support and enhance human resource development efforts for Nation workers in a range of professional sectors such as health, education, children and families, resource management.

As a member of the FNPSS team, the FNPSS Project Officer will support projects and programs, and will plan, coordinate, and implement activities, products, and events in support of the FNPSS work plan. Work undertaken will include outreach with BC First Nations, government employees, and partner organizations.

The position will require an individual who shows strong judgement, integrity and discretion. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple competing priorities.

First Nations Public Service Secretariat and Sovereign Keewatin Yahthi Nations received funding to help strengthen their consultation capacity.

This support helps communities take part in decisions that may affect lands and rights. It also leads to better outcomes for major projects, supports self-determination, and contributes to reconciliation.

Last week, FNPSS co-hosted the third and final Local Government Land Use Planning Regional Workshop on Lheidli T’enneh territory (Prince George), delivered in partnership with the Local Government Management Association of British Columbia (LGMA). We are grateful to the Fraser Basin Council for their valued collaboration in bringing this program to life.

With appreciation, we also recognize the speakers and participants for sharing their time, knowledge, and perspectives, and the Advisory Committee members whose guidance helped foster stronger relationships and mutual understanding between First Nations and local governments.

A heartfelt thank you as well to the House of Ancestors for their warm hospitality, and to the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and the City of Prince George for working together to open the workshop in a good way and set the tone for meaningful, collaborative dialogue.
We also extend our appreciation to our sponsors, whose contributions were essential to bringing this workshop to life.

The event will include legislative insights, case studies, and tools for shared land use practices.
