Disse smykkene er laget på De britiske øyer på 700-tallet. Mange av dem ble opprinnelig brukt som pyntebeslag på kirkelige gjenstander som bøker og relikvieskrin. I Skandinavia er de fleste funnet i kvinnegraver, og har blitt gjenbrukt som draktspenner. Gjenstandene er spor etter de tidlige vikingtoktene. Da de skandinaviske vikingene kom til De britiske øyer på slutten av 700-tallet angrep de kirker og klostre. Disse stedene hadde liten militær beskyttelse.
Stolen luxury
These pieces were made in the British Isles in the 700s. Many were originally used as decorative mounts on sacred objects used in churches, for instance on books and reliquaries. In Scandinavia, these types of objects are usually found in women’s graves and have been refashioned into brooches. They are evidence of the early Viking raids. Neu: Animationsfilm "Gudruns Reise"

Wir laden euch dazu ein, in eine ganz besondere Welt aus der Wikingerzeit einzutauchen. Der neue Animationsfilm „Gudruns Reise“ nimmt euch mit auf einen gefahrenvollen Fußmarsch eines Mädchens, das dem legendären König Harald Blauzahn von Haithabu über das Danewerk nach Jelling folgt.

Der knapp zehnminütige Kurzfilm mit Bildern des Comiczeichners Bjørk Matias Friis ist vom Danevirke Museum, dem Wikingermuseum Haithabu und dem dänischen Wikinger-Welterbe Kongernes Jelling gemeinsam produziert worden.

This beautiful silver armlet was found as part of the Bossall/Flaxton Hoard, which dates to around AD 925. It was a large hoard which is thought to have contained around 270 coins and pieces of silver. It was found in 1807 near York but the location of much of it is now uncertain.

The armlet itself is the last known surviving piece of silver from the hoard. It is in excellent condition and is decorated with punched ornament which is rare in Britain!
