Please be advised that effective Saturday May 9, 2026 the Town of Wembley will be under a Fire Restriction. Campfires are still allowed within Town limits during the restriction in approved fire pits. No fire permit is required within Town limits as long as your fire pit meets regulations outlined in the Fire Services Bylaw 753. Town residents are asked to use extreme caution when burning due to weather conditions.

For County residents, no new fire permits will be issued once the restriction is in effect. Residents who hold a valid fire permit issued prior to the restriction must follow permit guidelines and safe burning practices. Visit the links below for more information.

Big thanks to Alberta Wildfire for coming in last night to train with the crews from Wembley and La Glace. With fire season upon us, this training couldn’t have come at a better time. Crews had the opportunity to work on wildland hose deployments, portable pumps, accessing remote fires and utilizing natural water sources such as rivers, lakes, and ponds.

04/30/2026

Crews will be conducting training tonight at 7:00 PM along 99 Avenue near the walking trails. During this time, you may see personnel operating portable pumps and spraying water as part of training exercises.

Please note, there will be no live fire involved.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Grande Prairie River Rats for their generous donation of $5,000 in support of our Water Rescue Program.

As a group that spends a great deal of time on local rivers, they understand how quickly conditions can change and how important it is to be prepared for the unexpected. Their contribution directly supports the training and equipment our members rely on to respond safely and effectively to water related emergencies.

This partnership between river users and emergency responders plays a vital role in keeping our waterways safe for everyone.

We truly appreciate your support and commitment to public safety.

Please be advised that we are conducting live fire training scenarios today and Sunday at the Wembley training facility. Smoke will be visible both days during operations.

Students from Wembley, Sexsmith, Beaverlodge, Manning and the County of Grande Prairie are completing their introduction to live fire as part of their NFPA 1001 certification program.

Please be advised that we will be conducting the annual test of our rooftop siren at 7:00pm today.

This air raid style siren was the original notification device for firefighters in the Town before radio systems and cellphone notifications eventually replaced the need for a siren. The siren still remains operational as a backup notification device in the event of a cellular network outage or significant event in the Town.

We’re proud to announce the completion of our new Stryker Jet Tunnel Pro 470 Water Rescue Boat!

This vessel replaces our 1989 Zodiac rescue boat, which had been in service with us since 2018. The Wembley Fire Department operates as one of only three Swift Water Rescue teams in the region, alongside Grovedale Fire & Rescue and Technical Search & Rescue in Grande Prairie.

Our new boat is designed for operations on both rivers and lakes. It is an important upgrade from our previous craft, which proved challenging to operate in river conditions due to motor limitations.

This project was made possible entirely through grants, fundraising, and generous donations. We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, who contributed over $24,000 toward this initiative. Since 2018, our water rescue program has been almost fully supported through external funding, including all suits and specialized equipment.

Additional support for this build included donated fabrication and powder coating for the radar arch.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to:

TC Energy
Archer - the well company
Grande Prairie River Rats
RB Oilfield Hauling Inc.
MLine Industries
Grandview Colony
Peace Country Installations
Whitecap Resources Inc.

Your support helps us continue providing critical rescue services in the area. We are still welcoming donations for the project which will help to purchase additional PPE, rescue equipment and electronics for the boat.

We want to thank the Wembley Firefighters Association on their fundraising efforts to purchase us two PRS Units (Personal Rescue Scooters). These custom scooters will allow for quick emergency responses within the Town. A fundraiser will take place soon to purchase the upgraded suspension and tire packages for off road use.
