Seeds for Eco Communities

Seeds for Eco Communities Our organizational objective is to demonstrate respectful stewardship of this planet Earth. We all have a responsibility.

Supporting a better way of life to restore balance between nature and humans is a calling that came from deep within. Following survival of a near death journey it became very clear what was needed and why we are here. Many of the people who make up the Board of Directors, Advisory Committee and who volunteer for Seeds for Eco Communities have spent much of their lives trying to find this balance

through various initiatives underway. The challenge is that there is much fragmentation and often not a shared end goal, as a result the planet continues to suffer - just look around you. Seeds for Eco Communities believes this balance and respect for one another, including our surrounding environment needs to be built as the foundational stones for how we live together. There are many environmental, social and economic benefits that can blossom from ecological community-based living. It is an exciting time to move forward and it is also a critical time as the earth needs us.

Today we wanted to provide a great big thank you to Laura Newman, Leah McMenemy, Caitlin Karelsen and Katerina Trieselmann - the amazing team from the University of Guelph who have developed an - incredible - ground breaking - first of its kind - guidance document detailing the roles and approaches an eco community can take to support emergency management efforts, not only for themselves but for neighboring communities.

As we skip gently through the spring months we look towards the upcoming flower moon - set to light the evening sky in early May. Some Indigenous communities recognize the abundance of blooming flowers during this sacred time of the moon cycle.
When we think about blooming flowers rising collectively together at this time of year, we are reminded about the important role of like minded partners as we all travel on our journeys.

In this month's podcast release from SFEC, we sit down with Ed Peterson, the Founder and Director of the Tiny Town Association.
Watch it here 👉 https://youtu.be/sTh6oC2v2L4
If you have not had the pleasure of learning about this like minded organization please listen in and check out their website for additional details, they're doing some great work to bring forward concepts such as pocket communities to help enable tangible affordable and sustainable housing options - something we all need to take very seriously!

Eco communities continue to carve a pathway forward for a more stable future - in an era in which sustainability is a need rather than an option. This is becoming particularly apparent with the current unrest around the globe. Eco communities are based on the values of social responsibility, environmental sustainability, and self-sufficiency. However, to ensure their long-term success and viability, key challenges must be addressed. This months blog examines some of the challenges eco communities face with tips on how to tackle them, check it out!

The bear moon is upon us, we are reminded of this sacred time, symbolizing new life as the bear cubs are welcomed into the world. Greeted by the beautiful moon and its soft reflection on the snow. The branches of the trees lead the way to their new life journey.

In this time of reflection we are thinking about those who are less fortunate, those that don’t have a home in what is sometimes an aggressively cold climate. This month's blog explores and profiles how tiny homes can provide real and meaningful solutions to the current global homelessness crisis.

For our new pod cast series, we would like to acknowledge the moon cycles. For some Indigenous communities, this month's Wolf Moon is associated with inner strength and resilience during the darkest part of winter. It’s a time to tune into your instinct and to listen to your inner voice while observing connection to the community. The Wolf Moon is a time of reflection and recalibration, as the first full moon of the year often sets the emotional tone for the months ahead. It’s a moon that invites people to slow down, take stock, and reconnect with what matters.

Over the coming months as From Roots to Roofs rolls out - not only will you be able to listen in to some of the brilliant minds from within our team of experts, but we will also be actively engaging with like minded organizations and individuals during our podcast to further share the knowledge and excitement behind the eco community movement.
