How do you feel when you encounter purple lilacs in fresh full fragrant bloom early in the summer? For me it’s a huge uplift and expansion, like floating slightly in an airier form, free and loose without losing ground and centre. I love the way they help me feel the promise of summer to come.
In researching this topic of lilacs with the flower essence medicine people on the internet, what I glean from naturally intelligent health workers is that lilac promotes emotional balance, peace and joy by helping to release rigidity, control, and past trauma. Makes sense to me both from my encounters with them on the tree and in taking the flower essence I have made with them.
The best aspect in flower essence remedies to me is that they work well on the spiritual and emotional level, which are in the roots of any malaise we are experiencing. They work so well, in fact, that within minutes or hours or days they can have shifted those layers so deeply that I barely remember why I took them to begin with. The changes are subtle, and in their subtlety they are profound. They can be taken individually or in blends.
These frequency remedies are a natural healing approach with nearly instantaneous impact. They support mood and course changes exceptionally well. Each flower has its own particular purpose within the field, but the nature of the field is the same: spirit, soul, energy, body, mind – all are clarified and enhanced.
Spiritual and emotional resolutions come along in a way that feels natural, wise and peaceful with flower essences. They are easy to take at any time with or without food. They fit in your pocket. They can help us rest and dream, reconcile distortions and walk the road that is our road to walk in peace and with gusto both.
A drop under my tongue or a few in my water a few times a day for a day or two is usually all I need. Some work on constitutional vulnerabilities that we might need to keep on hand and return to with some regularity. Others work on conditions that are part of a becoming process, passing through, and may never need to be taken again.
I live at Little Manitou Lake in Saskatchewan. It is a special place. A valley of salty water lined with plant medicine, berries and critters. People have been coming here for peace and healing since people have been coming here…long time. A few of us of the human kind live here year round and many visit for healing and play. There’s something really special about this place in the natural world.
I started making flower essences with Little Manitou wildflowers, trees and organic crops of my own three years ago. In my first year I brewed aspen, arnica and blazing star.
Aspen is a nervous system supporter and can be a real life saver for sensitive people or after a shock. Think of the trembling aspen, shivering with every wind. Aspen groves are key to the prairie and forest ecology in the middle of Canada. They are a community of trees joined thoroughly with each other through the roots. One tree becomes two, three four and so on. All connected, sharing nutrients and in-the-ground natural intelligence. All of this wisdom is captured in the essence from their catkins in the spring.
Arnica is for inner pain. As we use arnica topically for physical pain in salves and cremes or as a supplement, so can we use it as frequency to meet pain in the field of our being, recalibrating and resolving pain within. We all have all experienced spiritual and emotional trauma. This inner pain impacts the way our bodies operate and often manifests in physical dysfunction and pain.
Our wild blazing stars are tiny things, more like alpine versions thanks to the soil and climate where they grow. Gravelly, dry and crispy is the ground that these little beauties spring from. Hot and windy is the weather on many days with occasional fits of rain, soft and torrential, both. Not surprising then that its power is to balance fire and water, masculine and feminine, build resilience and strengthen will.
In year two I added wild rose, a remedy that works on the heart, helping us to reopen to others and life and to flow more abundantly, shifting apathy and emotional fatigue into meaning, willingness and fresh capacity for life.
Last year I added lilac, already described, chokecherry which helps to transmute deep seated anger and resentment, and mullein which supports inner truth, authentic expression and a strong moral compass.
Flower essences are made from fresh flowers picked in the morning while the dew is still on. Placed in a bowl of clean natural spring water under the sun, the water is infused with both the plant’s frequencies and the sun’s charge. They are then preserved in alcohol or glycerine and bottled for storage. Those preserved in alcohol especially are viable for many years.
Bach’s flower essence remedies are available at most health stores. Dr. Bach was a homeopath and his line of world famous flower essences is now more than 75 years old.
These days a lot of women in particular are reviving the medicine and making their own for both home use and for sale. I am one of those women. I also use them in my healing practice as part of a session.
Plant medicine has really helped me find my way back from the harmful artificial medicines and living ways of modernity. Their benefits are tremendous, as you’ve been reading about here for their essence form, but honestly, the words don’t do them justice. They just can’t. You need to experience them first hand.
