If you haven't already, check out our Westvale pollinator garden in Bolingbrooke Park. It is spectacular! And walk all the way around it - there are different blooms at the back.

ICYMI the first ever FREE Westvale Family Swim is this Friday (July 24th). Registration to attend closes on July 23rd at 7pm; follow the link to register:

The free swim takes place on July 24th from 7:15pm-8:45pm at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex. Simply let the front desk know you’re attending the Westvale Family Swim for free entry.

Remember, you MUST REGISTER in order to save your place to attend for free. And when you attend, we ask that you respect the rules and others, and of course have fun!

Join us for Westvale's first Free Family Swim!

When: Friday July 24 from 7:15pm to 8:45pm
Where: Waterloo Memorial Recreation Centre on Father David Bauer Drive.

We will be swimming during a regular public swim time, but it is free for Westvale residents. When you arrive, just tell the staff that you are part of the Westvale Family Swim.

In Waterloo, fireworks are permitted on Lunar New Year, Victoria Day, Canada Day and Diwali/Deepavali.

On July 1, 2026, fireworks will be permitted from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

They must be set off on private property and are not permitted in public spaces such as schools or parks. If you're planning to use fireworks, consider notifying neighbours in advance, as the noise can disturb pets, children, those with different work schedules or individuals sensitive to loud sounds. Avoid setting off fireworks near water systems or in areas where wildlife live, as fireworks contain chemicals that can harm the environment and animals.

City of Waterloo Canada Day holiday hours:

Moses Springer outdoor pool will be open from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. See the special pool schedule at waterloo.ca/activewaterloo.
The public washroom at City Hall will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

All other city facilities will be closed.

It’s here and live! The first edition of the WCA Business Directory is now available. You can access the page from the link below, or the link in our bio. The link will also be available through our website, and a hard copy will be available in the neighbourhood Little Libraries.

Thank you to all that registered to participate in our first edition! If you’d like to participate in the future then the next edition will be available on January 1st, 2027; more information to register will be shared in the fall.

"if you build it, they will come" Thanks to Westvale neighbour Lynn Weimer who spotted the tiny Black Swallowtail Butterfly caterpillar in our Westvale Pollinator Garden in Bolingbrook Park.

The caterpillar is on the Golden Alexander plant, which is the host plant for that species of butterfly. Golden Alexander is a spring bloomer with delicate yellow flowers expending in long stems. It is just about done blooming in our garden.
