Thank you to everyone who joined us today for the 3rd Annual WLUFA/OSSTF D35 WLUSA Pride & Popsicles at Martin Luther University College!

It was a joyful afternoon of popsicles, community, connection, and celebration. We were so glad to gather with colleagues, students, friends, and campus partners to celebrate 2SLGBTQI+ people and sexual and gender diversity across our campuses.

Thank you to everyone who helped organize, table, welcome visitors, and make the day such a warm and fun success.

Everyone. Every identity. Every campus. Together. 🌈

Thank you to Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty Association for a valuable conversation about the realities of teaching and working at a satellite campus, and the impact of over-reliance on contract faculty on students.

Ontario’s postsecondary sector needs long-term sustainable funding and secure faculty employment to support high-quality teaching and learning that generates the graduates needed to build Ontario's future.

While progress has been made for WLUFA’s CF Members, major issues remain. Sustained public funding for Ontario’s PSEs is needed to secure benefits, job security, pathways to full-time work, and research support for Contract Faculty. tinyurl.com/cfsmdoa Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA)

Recent progress at Laurier for Contract Faculty matters. It also shows why collective action matters. But fairness for Contract Faculty depends on more than local gains. Chronic underfunding continues to drive precarious academic work across the sector. tinyurl.com/cfsmdoa Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA)

Mediation has begun.

The final "full pass" has been given to the Contract Faculty Negotiations Team. With less than 14 hours until the strike deadline, the team is sequestered and digging in on the major issues that remain:

• Compensation
• Benefits
• Job security
• Unpaid labour

These are not small issues. They are about the real cost of living, access to healthcare, and predictable income for Contract Faculty who do essential teaching work at Laurier.

There is more than enough room to make meaningful movement on these priorities.

It is going to be a long day, but it has already been a long road.

To our students, colleagues, and supporters, thank you for standing with us. Your support matters. We stand together and will continue to stand together for a fair deal and real improvements.

We’re preparing for Monday’s strike deadline (12:01 a.m., Feb 23).
Shirts, signs, safety gear, and strong solidarity across campus, including support from WLUSA and a unionized printshop that produced our picket signs.
Stay tuned for updates.
