We enjoyed listening to Julia Castillo from the Community Justice Initiatives - The Just Community on our Grants night as she discussed how the funding from Zonta KW supports programs like the Stride Circles.

Stride Circles supports women and gender-diverse individuals in the justice system by providing volunteer-led practical and social reintegration support before and after incarceration.

We had the great honour of hearing from Debbie Adair, from the Marillac Place during our meeting on September 16th, where we presented cheques to many local organizations.

The support from Zonta KW will be used to help fund a dedicated AfterCare van to expand outreach and support for mothers transitioning out of homelessness, ensuring reliable, safe, and consistent access to essential services

One of our favourite things to do at our General meeting in September is to present cheques to many of our community partners with funds raised from the Betty Thompson Golf Classic golf tournament.

This year we presented a cheque to Tanvi Singh of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo Region. This program builds confidence and healthy living skills in female-identifying youth through mentorship, group support, and structured activities that promote well-being and positive choices.

At our General meeting on September 16th we were pleased to present cheques to many of our community partners with funds raised from the Betty Thompson Golf Classic golf tournament, including the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region

A cheque was presented to Sally Sarachman of SASC. The money provided will help SASC in the important work they do to support victims of gender-based violence through community-based care.

At the Zonta International Convention in Vancouver this past July, delegates approved a resolution to work towards a Peace Initiative to be implemented through existing Zonta committees, districts, clubs and members during the 2026-2028 Biennium.

Today, on the International Day of Peace, Zonta International joins the United Nations in calling for investments in peace for everyone, everywhere, every day. 🕊️

We cannot achieve our mission or vision while millions of women and girls are living in conflict or post-conflict settings that present significant risks to their personal safety and well-being.

Read Zonta International’s Statement on Women's Rights in Armed Conflict and Post-Conflict Settings for actions you can take as an individual and how you can further advocate for government action:https://www.zonta.org/images/docs/NewsEvents/Statements/ZontaInternationalStatementonWomensRightsinArmedConflictsandPostConflictSettings.pdf

The Zonta Club of Kitchener Waterloo supports the Zonta Club of Toronto in its call for action. Visit menstrualequipty.ca to send a letter to your Parliment member.

The Federal Menstrual Equity Fund, has helped communities across Canada provide free period products and stigma-busting menstrual health education. Unfortunately, this funding is scheduled to end in March of 2027. Organizations across Canada are asking the federal government to renew and expand this important investment by sending letters to their Members of Parliament. The website is menstrualequity.ca and there's a link "send your letter". All an advocate needs to do is fill in their postal code and name to generate the letter and it will automatically go to the appropriate MP.

Please send this out to all of friends and any other interested parties. This is a way that we can help make a Better World For Women and Girls who need this kind of support.

JULY 30TH – WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN HUMANS

Across the world, transnational organized crime groups are trafficking and exploiting thousands of people and forcing them to take part in industrial-scale financial fraud operations. This is a growing form of trafficking in persons for forced criminality, closely intertwined with cybercrime, financial fraud, money-laundering and corruption.
