What support actually helps after a brain injury? 🧠💙

Support doesn’t always need to be big. Often, it’s the little things that matter most.

✨ Listening without trying to “fix” things
✨ Being patient with unpredictable recovery timelines
✨ Reducing pressure to “bounce back” quickly
✨ Offering practical help with everyday tasks

Sometimes support looks like sharing notes, giving someone a ride, bringing food, or simply sitting quietly together.

You do not need perfect words to support someone through recovery. Compassion, patience, and understanding go a long way. 💙

Brain Fact Friday 🧠⚡️

After a concussion, the brain goes through a series of complex changes that disrupt normal neuronal functioning. This creates an “energy crisis” — where the brain needs more energy to heal, while being temporarily less able to produce and deliver it efficiently.

That’s why symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, and headaches can happen so easily during recovery. 💙

Setbacks can feel loud.
Progress is often quiet — but that doesn’t make it any less real. 💙

Healing can look like resting when you need to, asking for support, or simply making it through the day. Small steps still count.

Why Does Sleep Disruption Occur After a TBI? 💤🧠

Sleep disturbances are common after a traumatic brain injury, affecting an estimated 30–70% of individuals during recovery.

This can include:
• Insomnia
• Sleeping too much (hypersomnia)
• Disrupted sleep patterns
• Parasomnias and other sleep changes

Why does it happen? A TBI can affect the brain systems responsible for regulating sleep, hormones, and the nervous system — making quality rest harder to maintain.

Sleep challenges after a brain injury are real, valid, and more common than many people realize. 💙

Why Routine Can Feel Impossible After a Brain Injury 🧠

After a concussion or TBI, everyday tasks can take much more brain energy. Things like planning, remembering, switching tasks, and staying focused rely on executive function — and when that’s taxed, even simple routines can feel overwhelming.

This can look like:
• Freezing at a to-do list
• Forgetting steps
• Avoiding simple tasks
• Feeling drained early
• Getting overwhelmed by small decisions

✨ What can help:
• Break tasks into smaller steps
• Use visual reminders
• Reduce choices
• Keep routines flexible
• Rest before burnout
• Practice self-compassion

Progress doesn’t require a perfect routine — just a sustainable one. 💙
