🌊 Citizen Science in Action Wallaceburg District Secondary School 🌊

A big thank you to our volunteer Andy Schmidmeyer for helping with water quality testing during a Grade 11 Chemistry class at WDSS on May 25

As part of this citizen science activity, students collected and analyzed water samples from the St. Clair River, testing for:

πŸ’§ Dissolved Oxygen
πŸ’§ pH
πŸ’§ Nitrates
πŸ’§ Turbidity

Using their results, each group calculated a Water Quality Index (WQI), providing a snapshot of local river health. Activities like this give students valuable hands-on experience while contributing to a greater understanding of our watershed.

Citizen science empowers community members to participate in environmental monitoring, helping to build awareness, stewardship, and a stronger connection to the natural world.

Thank you to the students, teachers, and volunteers who continue to support environmental education and watershed stewardship in our community.

✨ Stories have a way of bringing people together.

πŸ“ The My Story Community Exhibition welcomed over 30 participants, from ages 6 to 70, sharing voices through art, writing, and personal expression. Each story reflected a deep connection to the land, water, and place we call home. 🌿🌊

πŸ’¬ What emerged was more than an exhibition. It became a living space of connection where generations met through story and everyday experiences became something powerful and meaningful. 🀝

πŸ“… Held in March 2026, this first annual My Story exhibition marks the beginning of a growing tradition, with the next already planned for April 2027.

🍻 A special thank you to Glasstown Brewery for their generous donation of a $15 gift certificate, awarded to Brenda.

❀️ And thank you to everyone who shared their story and to those who visited and experienced them in person. You helped bring it all to life.

🌊🀫 We’ve got a little secret to share…

Something beautiful is about to surface in our community! πŸ’§

πŸ“– From March 2 – 24, the My Story Community Exhibition will fill the Wallaceburg & District Museum Art Gallery with creativity, colour, and community stories β€” all inspired by our waterways.

Each piece is part of β€œThe Water Chapter” in our community storybook β€” told through the eyes of local artists, students, and storytellers from Dresden to Sombra, including Walpole Island. πŸ’™

Come explore how we’re all connected by the Sydenham, Snye, and St. Clair Rivers, and maybe even see someone you know featured in the show!

I had the absolute joy of making waves at 99.1 FM to share about our My Story Community Exhibition πŸ’§πŸ“»βœ¨

A big splash of thanks to Tanner for such a fun and engaging interview. The conversation flowed beautifully and gave us the chance to highlight what makes this presentation so special to our community 🌊

And yes, Aqua Lee floated in on the fog herself. She mist absolutely nothing. Our favourite water molecule condensed into the studio and helped us create quite a splash. The energy was truly in the air πŸ’¦

We captured a few wonderful photos during the visit πŸ“Έ and they are shore to make you smile.

Our Story runs all month through March 24 and invites you to come see how others view and experience our waterways. Through art, words, and creative expression, you will witness the many ways water connects us all 🌿

There are also two interactive pieces that will make you think and smile, adding a little extra ripple to your visit πŸ’™

Come experience it for yourself and let the current carry you through.
