Back to school means new routines, new opportunities ... and sometimes, new barriers. 🎒💙

Parents and caregivers: your voice matters. If your child isn’t getting the support, accommodations or access they need to thrive at school, keep asking questions, speaking up and sharing what you’re experiencing.

You don’t have to figure it all out alone. Community Living Ontario and PooranLaw have created a Special Education Guide to help families understand their rights, navigate the system and advocate for their child.

📚 Know your rights. Know your options. Use your voice.

June 18th is Infant and Child Day which s celebrated across Ontario by professionals, organizations, and the Ontario Association for Infant and Child Development (OAICD). It is dedicated to honouring the contributions of ICD consultants who support early childhood development, helping young children and families thrive. Both Community Living Owen Sound & District and Community Living Walkerton & District are proud to have ICDS programs staffed by consultants who provide invaluable early intervention services to children and families across Grey Bruce. Our consultants meet each family with an open mind and a caring heart, equipped with specific tools and training. These qualities are so very important as they are often the first professional families met when pursuing services.

Each year OAICD celebrates this day using a theme. This year’s theme was reflecting on childhood in the 90’s and when polled, our consultants shared what they valued about that time in life:

• children made their own fun, often playing outside for hours
• children learned how to be bored
• children had stories read to them versus electronic devices
• children played games like I Spy to pass time on road trips or waiting for appointments
• less structured and planned time as a family
• less pressure around what to feed your infant

What’s that saying about change? “The only thing that ever stays the same is that everything changes.”

Despite whatever changes we may see along the way pertaining to lifestyle, the one thing that stays the same is the commitment, dedication and benevolence our consultants demonstrate each and every day.

We join OAICD in thanking all ICD consultants for your countless contributions to communities across Ontario.

Work has officially begun in the Community Living Walkerton garden 🌱

We’re getting our main garden space ready for the season and starting to bring everything back to life after the winter months.

We’ve also been given access to the lot next door — and we’re excited to share a sneak peek at what’s to come. This additional space will give us room to experiment, expand, and plant some big, fun, colourful crops this growing season.

Huge thanks to for supporting this project, and to for helping us get started with the tools we need.

There’s lots more to come — stay tuned as the garden grows. CV
