Thank you to the Councillors from Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, Anthony Chegahno, Jessica Keeshig-Martin, Beverly Nadjiwon, and Theron Solomon who joined us to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Market Garden in Walkerton. The community appreciates you sharing your stories as we continue to reflect on the truths of the past and look forward in the spirit of reconciliation. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing relationship we have built over the last number of years - may our relationship grow stronger each year.
Thank you to Indigenous author, Dorothy Ladd, for sharing her beautiful book “Memengwaa”, as well as information about raising monarch butterflies www.dorothyladd.com and thank you to Bruce County Public Library staff for sharing the button maker and books about Truth and Reconciliation and items written and illustrated by Indigenous authors with everyone in attendance.
We would like to thank the Municipality of Brockton, the Walkerton & District Optimist Club, the Walkerton Kinsmen Club, and members of the community who gave cash donations at the June River Blessing event for supporting the efforts of this group. Thank you also to His Style and A&R Music for displaying orange awareness ribbons in September.
