The Wainwright Early Years Coalition supports the Early Child Development Mapping (ECMap) initiative, which is a five year research and community building initiative funded by the Government of Alberta and led by Alberta Education. This initiative will help Albertans to better understand how their young children are doing in the areas of social competence, language & thinking skills, physical heal

th and well-being, emotional maturity, and communication skills and general knowledge. The Early Development Inventory (EDI) was used to obtain the above information. The EDI is a questionnaire completed by kindergarten teachers and then analyzed in relation to data such as household income and community resources including parks, libraries, preschool programs, etc. Using this analysis, The Wainwright Early Years Coalition will assess which resources are a community strength as well as idenitfy gaps in services to better support the first five years of a child's life, the most critical period of development.
