Best of luck to Jace Freeman and his Virden rink of Shaela Hayward, Dallas Burgess & Eryn Czirfusz as they compete in the Chicken Chef Manitoba Mixed curling provincials at the Pembina CC in Winnipeg this weekend.

The foursome starts play tonight at 9pm vs Andrew Wickman of the Fort Rouge CC. Have a great weekend!

GOOD LUCK TEAM HAYWARD!

Tune in this afternoon to watch Shaela Hayward and her Carman CC rink (India Young, Keira Krahn, Dayna Wahl & coach Ron Westcott) play the GOLD MEDAL game at the New Holland u20 Women’s Canadian National Championship at 2pm today!

The girls battled back from a 5-1 deficit in the semi final this morning after 5 ends to claim a 7-5 win in an extra end against Nova Scotia 1 (Cassidy Blades from Halifax).

Shaela is the daughter of Darcy & Diane Hayward, and granddaughter of Terry & Dianne, longtime members and supporters of the Virden Curling Club!

What an amazing week, keep it going girls! Bring home the gold medal 🥇! 🦬 🦬

The '25/26 HutchAg Men's Club Championship went to the Cory Barkley rink.

They defeated the Lyle Kinnaird rink in the final on Wednesday evening.

Congrats on a great season gents, we look forward to seeing all 21 rinks and welcome more next season!

Our season wraps up with our Doubles Bonspiel on Tuesday, the HutchAg Men's Club Championship wrapping up Wednesday night, and some schools trying out curling this week before the plant gets shut down.

It's a great time to make a special shout out to our staff as we wrap up the season this week:

- Darla Hayward kept the bar running smoothly all season once again.

- Chloe Sheane & Thelma Quinn kept everyone fed in the kitchen, as well as catering our banquets. Lots of volunteer hours from Roxanne Freeman here as well.

- Geordie Barkley and his crew of Mark Wakely, Brooks Freeman, Jace Freeman kept us playing on excellent ice conditions, and Geordie's handiwork keeps the old barn intact year round. Not to mention, tons of volunteer hours from Cory Barkley & Graham Freeman on the ice as well

Also to Mrs. Pine Sol Tara Mooney who does a masterful job keeping the building s**c and span all year and especially during bonspiel weeks!

- Lastly... to our volunteers: To our board of directors, all those who ran leagues/bonspiels/events, and to everyone who worked a canteen/bar shift or volunteered their time in any other capacity.. we appreciate the generosity & support our members to keep the VCC buzzing all winter.

Our 126th Men's Bonspiel wrapped up on Sunday night. Here are your winners:

Integra Tire 1st Event Champions and the winners of the WJ Duncan Memorial Trophy went to the Travis Gregory Rink (pictured L to R: Marshall Duncan presenting, Travis Gregory, Wes Gregory, Brett Heaman, Rob Van Kommer, and Danny Pierrard presenting). They defeated the Blaine Stewart rink in the final.

Mainline Motors 2nd Event went to the Dallas Burgess Rink (L to R: Alex Fontaine, Tanner Graham, Ryan Ostrowski, Dallas Burgess). They beat Cory Barkley in the final.

Four Season Sales 3rd Event went to the Justin West rink (L to R: Dale Guild, Justin West, Austin West, Dustin Redfern). They beat Branden Jorgensen in the final.

Valleyview Co-op 4th Event went to the Kevin Barkley rink (L to R: Kevin Barkley, Dwayne Barkley, Dallas Ritchie, Brad McGrath). They beat Jay Kinnaird in the final.

The Virden Ford & Nielsen Seeds draw to the button competition & winners of the Wade Sauter Memorial plaque were the Ken Wegener rink (thrown by Charles Cuthill) and the Blaine Stewart Rink (thrown by Brayden Stewart). Each team took home $500. (L to R Finalists: Brett Heaman, Kevin Barkley, Soren Nielsen, Charles Cuthill, Brayden Stewart, Dallas Burgess, Steve Irwin, Brock Davies, Murray Davies, Cam Whyte)

Thank you to the 37 teams who came out to curl, support the Calcutta, draw boards, and bar/kitchen. We hope you enjoyed the bonspiel and hope to see you all back at the 127th!
