On a long-vacant strip beside London’s North Circular Road, Peter Barber Architects created Edgewood Mews: 97 homes arranged around a car-free, double-crescent pedestrian street.

Formerly known as Beechwood Mews, the project includes 50% affordable housing, plus a café and corner shop — turning a difficult roadside site in North London into a compact piece of city-making.

2 UNPOPULAR FUN FACTS ABOUT THE DANCING HOUSE.

The Dancing House in Prague is one of Frank Gehry’s most famous works, designed to mimic a pair of dancers, but its history is far more controversial and odd than its postcard-perfect image suggests.

1. It Was Almost Banned:
The building’s design technically violated the strict urban planning codes of Prague, which required buildings to align with the historical facade line of the street. The glass tower actually curves out onto the sidewalk. It only received a pass because of the polıtical support of President Havel, who pushed for the deconstructivist style as a symbol of the country’s new democracy.

2. Locals Used to Häte It:
Today it’s a symbol of Prague, but when it opened in 1996, it was deeply unpopular. Critics called it a "crushed can" and felt it was an insult to the Baroque and Art Nouveau architecture surrounding it. It took nearly a decade for public opinion to shift from eyesore to global landmark.

When we imagine the future .. lets imagine something interesting, inspiring and totally COOL.

Designed by Studio Gang, located in Amsterdam, The Q residence (Quatz) features a rhythmic, three-dimensional grid of pre-cast concrete fins that provide solar shading while creating a sense of organic movement across the facade.

These sculptural elements transition into deep, staggered balconies that blur the line between indoor living and the surrounding "garden city" landscape. A Jeanne Gang's first completed project in Europe

Casa Milà in 1911 — The Building That Shocked Europe 🖤

This is Casa Milà — photographed in 1911.

No cars.
Horse-drawn carriages on Passeig de Gràcia.
And a brand-new building that many people thought was outrageous.

When Antoni Gaudí completed it, locals mocked it.

They nicknamed it La Pedrera — “the stone quarry.”

But the reaction didn’t stop in Barcelona.

There’s an anecdote that French politician Georges Clemenceau visited the city and was so shocked by the building that he reportedly refused to give a speech there.

He couldn’t believe people were expected to live in something that looked like that.

Imagine that.

Today, it’s one of the most admired buildings in Spain. A UNESCO World Heritage site.

A masterpiece.

Back then? It was controversial.

The flowing façade.
The iron balconies twisting like seaweed.
The rooftop chimneys standing like silent warriors.

In 1911, this wasn’t “beautiful.”

It was disruptive.

And that’s often how genius begins.

The Fluevog family’s house will make you look twice. “The neighbors call it a ‘shape sorter’ house,” says Ali, who lives there with her husband, Adrian, and their two young sons, Jonah and Lucas. It’s a moniker she and Adrian—CEO of John Fluevog Shoes, the cult fave Canadian brand founded by Adrian’s dad in 1970—take as a compliment. “I’ve grown up making ‘unique soles for unique souls,’” says Adrian. “I’m used to quirkiness.” See inside: https://www.dwell.com/article/fluevog-residence-mahg-architects-vancouver-british-columbia-028b8dd0
