CAMRA Victoria

CAMRA Victoria The Victoria branch of the Campaign for Real Ale - British Columbia (CAMRA BC). Join us in support of craft beer in Victoria & BC! http://www.camra.ca/

The Campaign for Real Ale Society of British Columbia (CAMRA BC) was incorporated in 1990 and is dedicated to the promotion and responsible consumption of natural, crafted beers. The membership of CAMRA Victoria is now close to 200 and includes micro-breweries and neighborhood pubs as corporate members. Activities include meetings each month with guest speakers, beer tastings, homebrewing seminars

, publication of a bi-monthly newsletter, and annual homebrew contest, and several social gatherings. Many members are skilled amateur brewers. CAMRA members are eager to apply their talents and experience to promoting widespread public appreciation of the many "real beers" that have become available in recent years. CAMRA is an independent, voluntary, consumer organization. Membership is open to all individuals and is governed by a voluntary unpaid executive, elected by the membership. The Society is financed through membership subscriptions, sales of products such as books and sweatshirts, and from the proceeds of the beer festival. We receive no funding from the brewing industry other than a limited amount of advertising in our newsletter, "What's Brewing" and local Corporate Members. We are a non-profit society registered in the Province of British Columbia.

So, Brewdog are for sale. Most in the industry have been predicting their demise for some time now. Probably to be bought out by some behemoth brewery like Heineken or AbInBev.

They strayed from the path, and it was going to end this way for a long time now.

It’s pretty tragic. Mismanagement. Misdemeanours, and worse.

…but let’s not forget, back in the old days, they were pioneers, making the best craft beer and definitely the best imperial stouts in the country.

They also seeded the industry with some of the best and most innovative brewers and bar managers out there.

So, whilst we shouldn’t weep at their demise, we should spare a thought for all the excellent staff that are now in limbo, and all those that went before.

I’ll be opening a bottle of something from their back-catalogue tonight, and remembering the good times.

Rest in punks.

Greetings CAMRA Members & Craft Beer Enthusiasts:

Subject: CAMRA BC and CAMRA Victoria: A Fond Farewell After 35 Years

Dear Members and Friends,

After 35 incredible years of celebrating and advocating for craft beer in British Columbia, the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA BC) will be concluding its operations in January 2026.

This decision comes after thoughtful consideration. In recent years, we’ve seen a decline in attendance at meetings, advocacy engagement, and volunteer participation. While this marks the end of CAMRA BC as an organization, it also reflects the success of our mission: today’s craft beer consumer enjoys an extraordinary abundance of choice, quality, and innovation. The BC beer scene has grown beyond what we could have imagined — and we’re proud to have contributed to that evolution.

We want to extend our deepest thanks to:

Our members, for your enthusiasm and loyalty.
Volunteers, whose dedication kept our efforts alive.
Past executives, for your leadership and commitment.
Sponsors, for your generous support.
And to the brewers, pub owners, and craft beer professionals who welcomed us, collaborated with us, and helped shape the community we’ve all enjoyed.
While CAMRA BC is winding down, this doesn’t mean the spirit of craft beer advocacy is gone for good. We wouldn’t be surprised if something new — inspired by the same passion — emerges in the future. The love of great beer and community never truly fades. We will have more details on the wind down plan in the coming weeks.

With all that, we would like to raise a glass together one last time.

To all Past and Present CAMRA BC members who see this message, please join your CAMRA Victoria Executive on Sunday, December 14th, in the place where it all began:

Spinnakers Brewpub (upstairs) 308 Catherine St in Victoria, BC from 6pm – 9pm.

We’ll share a pint, have some bites and share the memories, and maybe a bit more.

As with everything, drink responsibly and plan for a safe ride home.

Thank you for being part of this remarkable journey. We raise a glass to the past, and to whatever may come next.
