Did you know Canada's first-ever tire recycling program started right here in BC?

At the time, used tires were a growing environmental problem, bulky, hard to dispose of, and not something you could just “throw away” without consequences.

Instead of treating tires as waste, BC took a different approach, and in 1991, the province built a system to recover and reuse tires. That early program laid the groundwork for what would become one of the most established tire recycling systems in North America.

A safer, more accessible place to play is now open at Spud Murphy Park in Abbotsford! ♻️

With support from the TSBC Community Grant Program, the park’s aging rubber tiles have been replaced with a new pour-in-place rubber surface, creating a smoother, safer and more inclusive space for children and families to play.

Check out this sculpture created by Colombian artist Edison Camacho in the Tire Museum, in San Francisco de Sales, Colombia! Tires can be turned into all sorts of useful products too, many are made and sold right here in BC.
