SSWA is hosting a… Family Fishing Day!
Join us at the Westmoreland River Nature Park this Victoria Day for an exciting day of angling 🎣

At the event, SSWA will be accepting donations which will go towards fixing the park’s fishing platform (second slide). We hope that with enough donations we can get the platform up and running once again for community enjoyment.

Rods and tackle available to rent (pay what you can) and hotdogs will be for sale (2$ donation). No fishing license required to participate.

We hope to see you there!🛶

If you’ve driven on Causeway Road recently, it’s possible you’ve noticed something missing! The green outbuilding that stood in the park, previously known as the Victoria Provincial Park, has been removed by the Department of Infrastructure and Transportation.

This was step one in ongoing plans to slow the progressive coastal erosions on this sensitive stretch of cliff, which houses SSWA’s largest bank swallow colony. The next steps involve allowing native vegetation to re-establish itself within the park, and to begin planting native coastal shrubs to stabilize the bank using a nature-based approach.

This decision was the result of an information and engagement session held by the DTI in association with the municipality of Victoria-by-the-Sea. Stakeholder feedback largely identified preserving beach access and the vulnerable bank swallow colony top priorities rather than hard-armouring the cliffs as a first approach to erosion mitigation.
