After a year of designing, machining, testing, and rebuilding unmanned aircraft, 16 members of UVic AERO made their way to Canada's premier vacation destination: Winnipeg!
Over the following 3 days, members worked 12 hour days (and some nights) to ensure that our flight systems were operating at their best. The hard work paid off and out of 11 Canadian Universities, UVic came first by one point!
The competition involved a simulated RCMP intel gathering mission and a large field evidence survey. AERO's Hexacopter was up to the task and flew successful semi-autonomous missions on both days. AERO will continue to perfect its aircraft systems and hopefully take home the gold again next year in Alma, Quebec!

Thank you to Unmanned Systems Canada, UVIC, our wonderful sponsors, and the rest of Team AERO who couldn't make it to the competition. We could not have done it without your help!

The UVic AERO team has been busy getting its systems ready for their upcoming engineering student competition in May. Keeping themselves busy with work, the team’s spirits have recently skyrocketed by getting a chance to meet, and spending the afternoon with, Canadian astronaut Bjarni Tryggvason late last month!
In the picture Michael Giles, James Sease, Shaun Wilkinson, and the team's faculty supervisor Afzal Suleman pose with Bjarni, who is holding the team's hexa-copter multirotor.
