Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Victoria Lodge #1 Independent Order of Odd Fellows The members of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows are sometimes referred to "Odd Fellows" or "Rebekahs."

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows began in 18th Century England, it was deemed odd to find people organized for the purpose of giving aid to those in need without recognition and pursuing projects for the benefits of all mankind. Our deep history began in North America, with the United States and Canada in 1819, and is continually expanding throughout the World where we are a worldwide fraterni

ty in 26 countries. The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs are striving to make the world a better place in which to live, seeking To Improve and Elevate the Character of Mankind. Odd Fellows have also become known in many areas as "The Three Link Fraternity" which is evidenced by our world wide "Three Link Emblem" which stands for Friendship, Love and Truth. These three links symbolize the chain that binds our members together and illustrates that our Communities, States, Provinces and Nations are strongest when joined together. Introduction of Odd Fellowship in BC. – The dispensation for the first lodge in British Columbia, was issued by the Grand Lodge of California on the 27th of February, 1864, and was sent to Brother James S Drummond, who had been the leading spirit among the local Odd Fellows; he was appointed District Deputy Grand Master. The lodge, Victoria #1, was instituted by Brother A H Guild, a special deputy, on the 10th of March, 1864. It is believed that this was the first benefit society organized in the province.

Camaraderie and history combined in the Victoria Lodge 1 Robbie Burns mighty dinner. Darren Rook’s culinary and whisky knowledge created an event to remember. 95 years young Gerry Ratchford had to show me his drivers licence before I believed him. Long live Odd Fellows. Haggis
