Springtime means gardeners are back at their plots! Today Mila planted the three sisters while her dad, Michael painted the chard in her garden.

The cultivation of the three sisters: corn, beans, and squash is a method called companion planting that has been used by Indigenous folks on Turtle Island for thousands of years. Corn provides tall stalks for bean to grow up. Bean provides nutrients like nitrogen for the soil. Squash creeps along the soil, out competing unwanted plants.
