The Flamenco de la Isla Society is proud to promote this work wherein our beloved art of flamenco is shared by such dedicated and generous artists from our community.
Mercedes Bátiz-Benét, Artistic Director of Puente Theatre and Co-Artistic Producer of the Great Works Theatre Festival is directing Blood Wedding: The Forest Remembers, her adaptation of the play by Federico García Lorca as part of the Great Works Theatre Festival.
Lia Crowe and Gareth Owen rehearsed intensively for the play while simultaneously participating and performing in the Flamenco de la Isla Music Intensive!
"This is an incredibly powerful piece, and it has been an honour to be the choreographer working with such a talented ensemble and sharing the art form I love so much. I’m really proud of the work that we’ve done, sharing and incorporating flamenco with actors who didn’t have previous experience in the art form. And I’m happy to also have the opportunity to share flamenco with a new audience who will learn about all the flamenco offerings in the city and I’m hoping our community will come out to see what we’ve been working on tirelessly for many weeks now!
