Accessibility looks different for everyone.

For some people, accessibility is about physical supports, for others, it can be more subtle. Either way, these things can make the difference between exclusion and participation.

This National AccessAbility Week, we’re celebrating accessibility by gathering together to talk about the many ways people, organizations, and communities are working to reduce barriers and build inclusion in Victoria.

Join us on Friday, May 29th, for a Community Conversation on Accessibility and Poster Show & Share at Victoria City Hall, 1-3 pm.

A few moments from the 2026 Welcoming City Conference, hosted by the Welcoming City Advisory Committee and supported by CREAN.

At the heart of this year’s gathering was human connection–bringing people together to share stories, build relationships, and reflect on what it truly means to belong in our communities.

From meaningful conversations to new collaborations, the day reminded us that a welcoming city is something we create together.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and contributed to this space!

On April 28, we recognize World Day for Safety and Health at Work. This day is about more than physical safety, it’s about all the factors that make a workplace truly safe, including cultural safety.

CREAN’s Essential Services vs. Essential Time Off research highlights the urgent need for Indigenous cultural leave policies across workplaces in British Columbia. Time for ceremony, grieving, and community isn’t a luxury, it’s essential.

Recognizing and supporting this time is part of what makes workplaces genuinely equitable, inclusive, and safe.

Where in Victoria have you felt like you truly belonged? And how connected do you feel to your community?

At the 2026 Welcoming City Conference, we asked participants where they feel most connected in Victoria, and the answers were rooted in community, culture, and shared experiences.

From cultural events to wellness spaces, poetry nights, and local markets, community in Victoria is thriving. At the same time, participants highlighted that there is always more work to be done.

On average, attendees rated their sense of connection at 8.6 out of 10, and shared their perspectives on the seven Welcoming City standards (rated out of 5). The results reflect both the strength of connection in our communities and important opportunities to continue building a more inclusive and welcoming city.

Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and helped shaped this conversation.

Where do you feel like you belong in Victoria? Let us know below!

Highlight from Chad Quinn during our Algorithm, Ancestry & AI panel last Saturday at CREAN's 11th Annual Cracks in the Concrete Conference.

Data sovereignty is essential to reclaiming our digital futures. Here, Chad underscores the importance of communities having the power to remove their own data from existing infrastructures, and how without this, there can be no true sovereignty.
