We had a great day at Nanaimo Pride yesterday! 🌈

Thank you to Nanaimo Pride Society for putting on another incredible event. It was so good to see so many people come out to celebrate love, community, and belonging.

At Pacifica Housing, we believe in housing for all. Pride is a reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe, valued, and at home, no matter who they are or who they love.

Proud to be part of it again this year, and we can't wait for the next one!

We are thrilled to announce that Pacifica Housing has been named Community Builder of the Year at the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce 2026 Business Awards! 🎉

Thanks to our staff and Board members who represented Pacifica Housing at last night’s award celebration - community building and collaboration truly runs through every part of the organization, from frontline workers to leadership and governance.

Thank you to the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce for a wonderful event, and to Mayfair Optometric Clinic for sponsoring the Community Builder of the Year category. The evening was a great opportunity to celebrate some outstanding leaders across the Greater Victoria region.

Lastly, congratulations to our fellow nominee, Blenkinsop Community Agricultural Centre who also deserves recognition for their meaningful contributions to our community.

Last Friday, we had the chance to ask a question that matters more than ever: what does it actually take to reverse the trend on homelessness?

Thank you to Paula Pönkänen of the City of Helsinki and Juha Kahila of Y-Säätiö for sharing what Finland has learned, with honesty about both the progress made and the work still ahead. Their experience was a powerful reminder that lasting reductions in homelessness happen when government, funders, and housing and service providers work alongside the communities they serve.

Thank you as well to Jill Atkey of BCNPHA for her closing reflections on how we can keep that progress going in BC and across Canada.

And thank you to everyone who joined us. The turnout shows how many people across the sector are serious about what comes next.

This is exactly the kind of conversation we hope to keep having.

Speaker Series Virtual Session 🌍
Housing First in Practice: Lessons from Finland

Beyond the Noise continues - this time virtually, and this time with a global perspective.

Finland is one of the few Western countries where homelessness has steadily declined, not through a single policy, but through sustained, system-wide alignment across government, non-profits, funding, and housing delivery.

On June 5 from 8:30 to 10:30 AM PST, join Pacifica Housing CEO Carolina Ibarra for a virtual conversation with leaders who have been a part of Finland's Housing First model.

Featuring:
Juha Kahila - Head of International Affairs, Y-Säätiö (Finland)
Paula Pönkänen - Project Manager, City of Helsinki
Closing remarks:
Jill Atkey, CEO, BC Non-Profit Housing Association

This session will explore what makes Finland's approach work in practice, the roles of government, non-profits, and financing systems, and what elements of this success already exist here in Canada and BC. It will also examine what differs between Finland and other leading jurisdictions, including Vienna, which has built significant social housing but continues to face homelessness pressures.

This is not about replicating a model. It's about understanding what becomes possible when systems align over time.
