“A person’s ponytail or the pom-pom on their toque can represent the movement and sound of a prey item,” she said. Nightingale also explained that these owls navigate largely by sound, and the swish of a person’s walk or run can sound just like a squirrel to them.
Her advice for runners is to steer clear of areas where they have encountered an owl before. Nightingale said that they are territorial animals.
“Once you have found a place where an owl is coming after you, that’s a good place to avoid,” she said.
Despite this, Nightingale explained that owls are not violent creatures by nature.
“They normally will not attack people for no reason at all.”

Saanich public works has been notified of this white substance in Bowker creek in KCNS near Richmond. It appears to be some type of paint and they are putting a containment boom around it.

Reminder—>Please do not rinse paint brushes/rollers or paint containers, or any other contaminants for that matter, near street or storm drains as they go directly into the creek.

Use inside sinks instead so the liquid/materials travel through the Saanich sanitary sewer system and into the Saanich Peninsula Wastewater Treatment Plant, maintained by the Capital Regional District (CRD).

Kings Park is technically outside of The District of Oak Bay , but Bowker Creek knows no boundaries. What benefits the creek upstream, benefits the creek downstream!

Please contact Gerald at [email protected] or 778-677-1355 to volunteer!
