Have just seen some news reports about the floods in Nepal. They need our prayers and our help.

So many amazing, talented, courageous people have passed away in the last few days. With regret we share that a member of our own congregation, Vera Blazenko, passed away on Monday. Please pray for her family and all who love her. She was a generous, hard-working woman who gave a great deal of her time to church and community. If she was involved, she was involved to the max. Many of you who are visitors from time to time at GUC will remember her as the woman who was one of the main organizers fir the Poinsettia Tea for years. With her passing a light has gone out of the world - so it's up to us to shine our light just that little bit more.

Coming up this Sunday, August 30th - the second edition of our summer hymn sing. Folk had so many requests we had to split them into two services! Come prepared to sing through the seasons of the church year. (Yes, we'll even sing a Christmas carol.)

We know many people are feeling sad about the passing of Dolly Parton, a music legend and a woman who was who she was, unapologetically. She was a deeply Christian woman who understood that the heart of Christianity is LOVE, pure and simple. Put on some of her music, sing along with her, and know that she is with Jesus. The world was a better place because she was in it.

There will be a service for Ron Berod on Saturday, September 19th at 2 p.m. here at Gordon United, 935 Goldstream. Ron was a long-time member of this congregation , a very active and valued member of the choir with his gorgeous tenor voice, and an accomplished pianist and keyboard player, always ready to play at any event, including our monthly Community Dinners Come and share your memories of Ron and support his family as they grieve this loss.

Thought it might be time to give you an update on the Raise the Roof campaign. We are excited and deeply grateful to say that we will be able to go ahead with the roof repair! We have raised over $30000 through donations and fund-raising from church and community, with the promise of a top-up from an anonymous donor. Your belief in this congregation and what we do is both humbling and affirming. Bless you all!

Had a great time in the Pride Parade this morning. Can't wait to see the results of the Fish and Feet painting at the church. Fish for Jesus and for Goldstream and Feet for all the people who are part of our community.
