Our Story

The Juan de Fuca Curling Centre was formed in 1975. After 44 years, the Juan de Fuca Recreation Center and the 5 owner Municipalities decided to close our doors on March 18, 2019, after a very successful Under 18 Junior Curling Provincials hosted by our club.

Our Board of Directors and Membership fought hard to keep the doors from closing, with support of the remaining clubs of Victoria and Esquimalt and people from all over Canada, we made sure our voice was heard.

We discovered many discrepancies in the financial records that the staff of Juan de Fuca Recreation had provided to the Municipalities and we asked for an opportunity to provide a proposal to the owners proving our club could be run by our Membership each season - saving tax payer money on union employees.

In May of 2019 we presented our report to the owners and management of Juan de Fuca Recreation, and were warned if not all 5 Municipalities were on Board, the doors were still closed. We knew one CAO did not support us at all, and that final meeting proved we were not going to change his mind.
