WITS stands for Walk away, Ignore, Talk it out and Seek help and represents strategies children can use when faced with bullying and teasing. They bring together schools, families and communities to help elementary school children deal with bullying and peer victimization. WITS has two components: the WITS Primary Program for students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 and the WITS LEADS Program for Grade

s 4 to 6. Both use a literature-based curriculum to bring the WITS message into schools and involve families and community leaders to create responsive communities for the prevention of peer victimization.

Every year, we're proud to support students who share how the WITS Program shaped their lives. This year, we're celebrating Alaina, Morgan, and Gabriella... three outstanding students who wrote compelling poetry and essays on the impact WITS has had on them. 🌟

It's easy to talk about kindness and stronger communities, but these students showed us what that actually looks like in their own lives, and reminds us why the work being done by WITS Programs and other similar organizations across the country matters!!

And none of this would be possible without our generous donors, whose support helps us recognize students with bursaries every year. Thank you for standing behind these students and making a difference in communities across Canada & beyond! ❀️ πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

A huge shoutout to the students at Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate & Vocational School for creating a Pink Shirt Project and holding their own β€œThink Pink” fundraiser! 🩷

The Pink Shirt Project is a youth-empowerment initiative run by the WITS Programs Foundationβ€”a Canadian charityβ€”in which youth across Canada take the lead on developing projects that matter to them: choosing a cause, building a plan, and putting it into action. We hope the example set by these students example inspires other schools to bring the spirit of Pink Shirt Day to their own classrooms.

A big shoutout to the Chris Spencer Foundation for their generous $10,000 contribution toward our Inclusion Strategies project to reduce discrimination. 😊 This kind of support helps the WITS Programs Foundation bring helpful tools & strategies directly to the students who will benefit from them most. We're grateful for partners like you who share our vision of a more welcoming, supportive classroom for every child. Thank you for helping us move this important work forward. ❀️

About the Chris Spencer Foundation:

In 1873, Welsh immigrant David Spencer opened a department store which became a local institution in Victoria, BC. Known locally as Spencer's, the enterprise grew to include multiple locations across the province before being sold to the T. Eaton Company in 1948.

Chris Spencer, one of David Spencer & Emma Lazenby’s thirteen children, joined the family business and became president of the company when his father died in 1920. β€œMr. Chris” as he was called, was known for his public spirit and kindness. He was an early supporter of the University of British Columbia and was on the Board of Governors from 1921-1936, and founded the Chris Spencer Foundation in 1949, with a mandate to provide funds for charitable organizations whose objectives are to improve the lives of Canadian youth.
