Three young bakers with big hearts! 💛 Yesterday, grades 3 & 4 students (left to right) Emmett, Keon and Kiki dropped off a donation of $130 to VWTHS, raised through their recent cookie sale, selling homemade Brown Butter Snickerdoodles and Chocolate Orange cookies.

These thoughtful young leaders didn't just create delicious treats – they baked a bit of hope and support for women and children in our community, bringing neighbours and friends together to help make a real difference. This is what building community looks like, one cookie at a time. Thank you to Emmett, Keon and Kiki, and to everyone who supported their sweet fundraiser!

It's World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and today (and always) we honour the courage of older women who have survived years – sometimes decades – of trauma and abuse.

For many older women, intimate partner violence isn't a single event. It's a lifetime of fear, control, and silence. The impact runs deep, affecting their health, safety, and sense of self. But survival is powerful, and possible. And community support can change everything.

At VWTHS, we stand with older women who are breaking their silence and reclaiming their lives. Every woman, at every age, deserves to live free from violence and abuse.

If you or someone you know needs support, reach out. You are not alone. Please call our 24/7 Crisis Line at 250-385-6611.

We're so grateful to Carol Good for donating part of the proceeds from the launch for her book, “No One in Their Right Mind”, to VWTHS. Carol (pictured left) came by this week and presented the generous donation to our Volunteer Coordinator Danielle – why? Because Carol is also one of our wonderful volunteers! Thank you Carol, for continuing to show up for our community in meaningful ways – and for your commitment to building a community free from intimate partner violence and abuse. 💜

Today we honour Kuldeep Kaur Ahluwalia's landmark legal win – a case that shines a powerful light on intimate partner violence in Canada. Her courage helped the court recognize a critical truth: abuse isn't always physical. It can be emotional, financial, coercive, and even weaponized through systems meant to protect.

Her experience underscores how newcomer women can face heightened risk, navigating cultural barriers, financial dependence, and the fear of retaliation – all while fighting to have their stories believed.

“I am glad that it has become a landmark case. I am sure it will help many women out there who are suffering.” - Kuldeep Ahluwalia

Kuldeep's victory is a reminder that survivors everywhere deserve safety, dignity, and justice. Today, and every day, we uplift survivors, demand accountability, and stand firmly for a future where no woman has to fight alone.
