BCGA Zone 5 Men

BCGA Zone 5 Men Was founded in 1904 as the PSO for amateur golf on Southern Vancouver Island.

The mission of the Committee is to promote golf among the clubs of Southern Vancouver Island and preserve the rich traditions that have been in place for the last 100 years. The Committee consists of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary/Treasurer, Tournament Director, Senior Coordinator, and Junior Chairman.

British Columbia Golf wins the 2026 PNGA Lamey Cup! The team from British Columbia Golf won the 19th PNGA Lamey Cup, held April 27-29 at historic Victoria (B.C.) Golf Club. This is the fourth time Team BC Golf has won this event, which features 10-person teams from the six associations under the PNGA umbrella – Oregon Golf Association, British Columbia Golf, Idaho Golf Association, Montana State Golf Association, Alaska Golf Association, and Washington Golf.

Victoria Golf Club is one of the six founding clubs of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association, which was founded in 1899. The club previously hosted the PNGA Lamey Cup in 2007.

British Columbia Golf, captained by BC Golf President Shauna Wilton, finished with 15.5 points; Team WA Golf was second with 12.5 points; Team OGA third with 12 points; Team IGA fourth with 11.5 points; Team MSGA fifth with 6 points; and Team PNGA sixth with 2.5 points.

BC Golf held a one-point lead over WA Golf after the first day’s play, which consisted of Four-Ball and Foursomes matches. In today’s Singles matches, BC Golf won 7.5 points to hold the lead.

The Zone 5 Men's Executive Committee is sad to hear of the passing of John Dunick. John was a long time member of the Zone Executive Committee holding the position of Senior Coordinator. John was also a long time member of Gorge Vale Golf Club holding the post of Club Captain in the late 1990's. John is now with his wife Pat, who predeased him. John served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Combat Systems Engineering Officer and after his military service worked in the Ship Repair Unit (Pacific) and Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton as the Underwater Weapons Engineering Officer before retiring.
John, you will be missed. Rest in Peace.

Well another Vancouver Island Open is in the books. Cedar Hill GC and Royal Colwood Golf Club both tested the golf skills of our field. The weekend weather was fantastic and there was some very special golf. The Open division was won by Craig Doell and Kevin Carrigan with rounds of -9 and -6. They narrowly defeated the father and son team of Lindsay and Luke Bernakevitch. Placing third was the team of Mark Bicknell and Nate Ollis.

The Senior division took longer to decide a Champion as the teams of Mark Dupuy and Mike Mannion, and Ron Frolek and Gord Hahn were tied after 36 holes. After 7 tied playoff holes, the Champion had to be determined by a chip off as darkness ensued. The team of Dupuy and Mannion prevailed. Placing third in the Senior division was the team of Jim Shaw and Doug Roxburgh.

Much thanks to all the competitiors and the golf courses for a fantastic weekend!
