After Carol’s passing, her mother Marjorie painted this piece, Starlight.

“Painting is how I process my feelings. I put all my love in there. So, you know she’s safe.”

Marjorie believes her spirit now lives among the stars.

“If I had lost her without having a chance to grow close to her again, I don’t think that wound ever would have healed.

Partnering to advance end-of-life care in the home

This week we took the first promising steps in a new partnership to advance end-of-life care in the home with an engagement session organized by Victoria Division of Family Practice, Victoria Primary Care Network and Victoria Hospice.

Caring for Patients Beyond the Clinic: Primary Care Perspectives on End-of-Life Care at Home brought together more than 40 physicians, nurse practitioners, clinicians, physician leaders and researchers to share diverse perspectives and firsthand experience of how hospice palliative care currently functions within the broader health system—focusing on the realities of providing accessible care in places people call home. Also attending were colleagues from UVic's Centre on Aging & Lifelong Care and the BC Centre for Palliative Care.

Insights from these conversations will inform shared priorities and ongoing collaboration across partners to strengthen care in the community.

To support this work, Victoria Hospice, who also sponsored the event, introduced a new centralized access point for providers, including referral pathways, symptom management guidance and practical tools to better support patients receiving care at home.

A huge thank you to all who attended for your perspectives, engagement and collaboration!
