"People from all walks of life convene at the Fairfield Community Place on a sunny Saturday in hopes of connecting with someone new.
But it’s not a dating service, and it’s not a business event — it’s the Meet a Stranger project.
The monthly meetups see attendees randomly put into pairs, and each pair talks for an hour. Conversation starters are placed at each table, letting people ease into the idea of conversing with a stranger about life, but Meet a Stranger founder Carrie Parsons said she finds they’re not often necessary.
“Everyone’s beaming, the energy’s high, people are connecting, there are repeat people — it’s making a difference,” she said.
Parsons came up with the idea last year while embarking on a personal journey of talking with 50 strangers in .
She put up posters asking to meet with strangers in cafes to have a platonic, one-hour conversation, and said she was surprised at how many people were interested in the idea."
