Join us in celebrating National Intergenerational Day! 🌟

Today, we celebrate the connections, learning, and sense of belonging that can happen when people of different generations come together.

Whether it's sharing stories with an older adult, learning a new skill from someone younger, volunteering together, or simply taking the time to connect across generations, these interactions help build stronger and more inclusive communities.

Looking for a way to celebrate?
💙 Call or visit an older relative, neighbour, or friend.
💙 Share a skill or learn something new from someone of a different generation.
💙 Volunteer together in your community.
💙 Start a conversation and listen to each other's experiences.

At Volunteer Victoria, we're excited to be exploring new ways to bring youth and older adults together through meaningful volunteer experiences.

👀 Watch this space for upcoming intergenerational volunteer opportunities and community events!

Feature #17 - Victoria Disability Resource Centre

Emma is a valued volunteer at the Victoria Disability Resource Centre, where she supports our busy parking program. Since joining the team in February of 2025, Emma has taken on a range of responsibilities, including assisting clients with parking permit applications, updating client information, and providing support in person, over the phone, and by mail. Her attention to detail and friendly approach help ensure people receive the services they need with ease and respect.

Emma shares that what she appreciates most about volunteering at VDRC is the strong sense of acceptance and positivity. She values being part of a team where colleagues support one another, offer constructive feedback, and create a welcoming environment. That sense of connection is something she encourages others to look for when considering volunteering.

At VDRC, volunteers like Emma are at the heart of what we do. Their time, care, and commitment make it possible for us to provide meaningful services to the community. We are deeply grateful for Emma and for all of our volunteers, whose contributions strengthen our work every day. More broadly, we recognize and appreciate the many individuals across our community who give their time and energy to support others. Volunteer efforts help build stronger, more connected communities, and their impact cannot be overstated.

Feature #13 - Society of Saint Vincent de Paul of Vancouver Island

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul relies deeply on the dedication, compassion, and generosity of volunteers across the organization. From supporting the day-to-day operations of our thrift stores, to helping foster connection through social activities in our seniors housing, to assisting with front-line services through the Social Concern Office, volunteers are woven into every part of our work.

With over 150 volunteers from diverse backgrounds—including high school students, retired professionals, church members, and individuals from the community we serve—volunteer service is a cornerstone of SVDP’s ability to respond to community need with dignity and care. One of our longest-serving volunteers has been with the organization for nearly 40 years, reflecting the deep sense of purpose and community that this service can inspire.

Within this broader work, the Social Concern Office’s Choices Pantry plays a vital role in supporting food security. Operating five days a week, the pantry supported 2,731 community members in the first quarter of this year alone. What makes Choices Pantry unique is its shopping-style model, allowing individuals to select items that best meet their needs and preferences, much like they would in a grocery store.

Approximately 60 volunteers support the pantry’s day-to-day operations, helping ensure the space remains welcoming, efficient, and grounded in dignity.
