Such a valuable resource!

Our message line is open and our email is monitored every weekday from 9 to 4 by our dedicated and resourceful volunteers in consultation with staff and board members. Call 250-413-3211, email [email protected] or use the form at sssbc.org

Seniors Link remains as relevant in these troubled times as it was when it was established in 1981 as a telephone link. These days we use the telephone, email and a web based contact form to give you personalized referrals and recommendations.

Utilizing our Seniors Service Directory and the expertise of our knowledgable volunteers we have become a valuable resource for seniors and their families in Victoria and the Capital Regional District. We provide referrals and non medical support to seniors and their families for every day problems and we help to access non emergency resources of all kinds in the Greater Victoria area.

Make Your Whole Day Matter: Move More, Sit Less, Sleep Well

Your daily habits shape your long-term health far more than you might think. In this session, we’ll explore simple ways to add more movement into your routine, cut down on long periods of sitting, and build healthier sleep patterns.

We’ll look at “movement snacks,” like standing breaks or quick chair exercises, that interrupt sedentary time and support better health. You’ll leave with evidence informed strategies that are easy to apply and designed to fit real life.

The session is led by Dr. Kirstin Lane, Associate Professor (Teaching Stream) in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education at the University of Victoria and a CSEP-Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP). Her research focuses on how exercise can safely support people with diagnosed medical conditions, with a particular interest in cancer.

Eldercare Foundation recently visited the Gorge Road Health Centre’s Arbutus View unit, and caught up with Maryl, her husband Don who is a resident there, and their daughter Meghan. Don was sitting at a large mobile board complete with a screen, buttons, levers and simple instructions. The board, called an ABBY, had captured his attention, and he turned the wheel as the screen played a point-of-view shot of a long, sun-dappled Sunday drive. He would turn along with the corners, his mind and body syncing with the memories of driving. Read more about the ABBY, and how a pilot program from Eldercare Foundation is bringing this innovative dementia intervention to long-term care homes on Vancouver Island. https://eldercarefoundation.org/new-activity-technology-fosters-independence-and-storytelling/
