Are you working in a company, or a municipality, that still thinks heavy trucking is "hard to electrify"? Then perhaps look to where the market has completed the trials and found what makes sense for the economics.

From the article:

"...The best policy is not a generic statement that heavy trucks should electrify. It is support for the specific duty cycles that are ready. Low-emission construction zones, public procurement requirements, industrial charging support, grid connection reform, construction-site noise rules, and transparent emissions reporting can all shift markets. The China lesson is not that every country can copy China’s exact system. It is that vehicles scale when policy, manufacturing, infrastructure, and operations point in the same direction. Every non-Chinese fleet owner and policy maker should understand that the market test has been run and battery electric won completely. No time should be wasted considering hydrogen for this category of vehicles in other countries...."

Company leadership and policy makers need to stay on their intellectual toes to follow where, and why, real progress is being made and transfer those learnings to their own situations.

Thanks to Michael Barnard for this revealing view.

China’s electric concrete mixer sales rose from 1,309 in 2021 to a 20,000+ estimate in 2025, showing heavy truck electrification is already scaling.

BC Ferries has better defined their policy regarding transportation of immobile EVs in their ships.
See the linked website for photo examples of Acceptable and Unacceptable examples.

This policy refinement will mean that 95% of immobile EVs will be able to be moved with BCF.

Fare choices are available on routes between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island to provide more value, choice and certainty.

Just how much more cost effective (not to mention more fun) is an EV over an ICE vehicle?

Let's look at the economics of running a Model Y compared to a BMW X3 from 2021 to 2026.

The smallish SUV (BMW X3) would have been burning through at least 10L per 100 km, and after 100,000 km in the past five years with an average fuel price on the island being ~$1.85 means spending $18,500 in fuel alone. Add $150 per oil change every 10,000km means around $20,000 in consumables alone.

A Model Y, charging at home at 12¢/Kwh at 16Kwh/100km ( actual lifetime average) means having spent $1,920...but with solar at 7¢, so it's really more around $1,120...and $0 for oil changes. 😉

That's affordability in action!

(Model Y 2021 purchase price $70K and BMW X3 M40i $66K)
